This is one of those engines that I find attractive because of its ugliness.

Cloning one of these would be difficult and this one is the full monty with engine cut out. To adjust compression the recommended tool is a old British Penny hence the name  "Penny Slot".

A very popular engine in its day.

Eye of the beholder Ian. So many slots, angles, and deviations. Eye candy to some, nightmare to others.

I like it.

Not the best looking engine Ian! Laughing

I'd say it's the Joseph Merrick of model engines. Although Joseph was more beautiful inside than most of us... so maybe it isn't all that bad.

Ron, You nailed it.  I think Cher starred in the movie.

Unfortunately, I have to disagree with the choice for a "Cher" of model engines.

Much as I like Bee engines there are a few obstacles to the comparison. The Bee is relatively small, squat in stature and much too young. Cher is tall, slender and a very well preserved 70 years old.

That's interesting Ian.  A friend told me a while ago that he'd just purchesed an ED "Penny Slot" but I'd never seen one.  I'd just assumed that it was in reference to the wide square exhaust stack that was common on so many of these early diesels, looking like a coin slot in a slot-machine.

Silly me Sad Goodbye
