Re: Shades of gold
hmmm, good call. i don't know, it may be different batches or as there run, more fade on the anodizing?
Re: Shades of gold
What causes the fade? Sunlight, heat, chemical reaction?

Good question...
Re: Shades of gold
Color anodizing can fade due to intense UV light exposure and wear. The anodizing process honeycombs the surface of the aluminum (aluminum oxide actually grows out of and into the surface) and allows the infusion of the dyes. The length of time in the dye bath can determine the deepness of the color, as does the dye concentration and amount of porosity. After anodizing and dyeing, the surface must be sealed to avoid leaching of the color. Consequently, anodizing depth, color immersion and concentration and sealing are all variables that will affect the overall final product. Variation in any of these can yield a different shade to start; wear and UV exposure will change it over time.
I have an older BW that has the color worn off part of the spinner due to stopping the engine with my fingers when it started backwards.

My Black Widow spinners are all pink, but that's from from gopher diving. All my planes are trained to hunt gophers, except Li'l Satan, amazingly, she's never been lawn boring. Thank goodness.

Re: Shades of gold
I noticed it last month on my tee dee.020's
I got 2 of 1987, which where much lighter. And 6 with from 89, which where more dark. I think there is a diffrence between each run of anodizing.
They are all NIB and did not see any sunlight after leaving the factory!
