Now, I would really like a couple of these!

Cox Conquest Cox_co10

Until recently I never knew that Cox ventured into high performance .15s, apparently they were quite some engines! Anyone know any more about them?

I have two of the RC version with a muffler. It is/was the latest ABC version (RJL) that was the real deal though...

I think I already have enough engines to last a lifetime, but it is a hobby so one should enjoy it...

I have the early Cox RC version. If I remember correctly, K&B bought the engine from Cox and replaced their own .15 with the Cox one. Later MECOA bought the rights and currently own it.

I have an early from cox that I'm using and a later from K&B that has stayed in its box so far (see below). There are only a few visible differences, and the K&B one uses metal gaskets below the cylinder while cox had regular ones. Both of mine came with two gaskets installed and I haven't tried how important they are for the performance.

Bernie recently had new piston/cylinder sets for these, but I might have taken the last two ones...

It is just a glow engine with typical safety stuff in the manual, what do you want to know?

The manual has a typo that is a little funny...

I posted this on the MECOA forum, too, but things look a little dead over there, so I thought I would try here too.

I am going to use my CL version on a Jr. Satan combat wing.

The instructions state in the second paragraph under "Starting and Break-in" that for the second part of the proceedure I should use the propeller intended for flying (their suggestion is 7 x 5) trimmed to 7/8 of the original diameter. That would be 6 1/8 x 5. Am I reading this right? Are they assuming this is on a test stand? Seems like a very small diameter, but I guess the idea it to let the engine rev close to what it should turn with a 7 x 5 in the air?

Yes, it can easily be converted. The ventury is held with a draw bar that will hold the correct Perry carb too. The CL version came with a glow-head rather than a plug but the heads for regular plugs (as used on the RC version) as easily obtainable. Or you can keep the glow-head on, especially for high rev applications (it has a litte higher compression than the RC head).

Looking at the engines, I would say a qualified yes.

I think your biggest problem would be finding a suitable throttle, I think we can probably say that the original throttle would be unobtainable, you would have to see if another unit would fit the engine.
Personally, I wouldn't contemplate this conversion, Conquests are (comparatively) rare engines, there are plenty of R/C engines available. I would keep a C/L Conquest as is, and buy a common R/C engine for use.

Thanks Guys, I want the RC to be fast, as noted I want to build an old Sig Doubler 1/4 Miget Racer/Sports plane, so I want it to scream fast!! this would of been the engine used back then, not seeing to many RC versions coming up for sale but the CL ones are, so I may need to take a chance on a CL and convert it somehow.

Thanks for the parts list. My nib Conquest is the ff one with venturi but
is missing exhaust and the sexy pointed spinner. I think any twin needle
carb of correct size would get the job done for rc, but would be nice
to know the number as opposed to catalogue no of the Perry.
Great project Jobe_Pro will give serious thought to it.

I believe the FF version had the spinner and a venturi but no muffler. Also had a different "button" head and glow plug.

The RC version I don't think came with a spinner and had a standard style "finned" head that took a standard glow plug.

I believe the crankshaft timing was different between them as well.
