Cox/Estes X Wing Canard CL Kit

Cox/Estes X Wing Canard CL Kit
Just finished building my X Wing. I am curious though as to how it stays outside the circle. It has no wingtip weight and no actual rudder all together. The only thing I can imagine doing anything is that the outboard elevator is fixed in slightly down position. Will this be enough? I do not want this plane to be like my (once) tail heavy Lil Jumpin Bean and high five me in the circle.

The outboard side of the elevator being low sounds wrong to me if the engine runs as a conventional tractor. Have you held it between the nose and tail to see if it's heavy on the outside? Is it a pusher? Which way does the engine spin?

Hi Godsey,
It's centrifugal force that keeps your lines tight, engine offset and rudder help (look at a combat ship) tip weight is used to help counter balance the weight/drag of the lines.

Rusty: The engine runs conventional and is a pusher.

I never had much luck with them. Probably because I couldn't balance it properly.

Oddly enough it means duck.
Re: Cox/Estes X Wing Canard CL Kit
So it's pointed backwards and rotating in the conventional direction with a pusher prop. That means the torque is twisting to lift the inboard wing. Weighting the outboard wing would make that worse.. In that configuration you want the offset to be toward the outboard side. Think of driving a boat and outboard motor with just the handle on the motor. Think which way you point the prop to make the boat turn right.Godsey3.0 wrote:Rusty: The engine runs conventional and is a pusher.

Re: Cox/Estes X Wing Canard CL Kit
I built one back in 2000 and powered it with one of the weak running Estes series Black (Silver) Widows. It flew okay and looked really neat in the air. You'll want to put some engine offset in for sure! You'll want to the offset to the left (meaning if your looking at the airplane front to back, the prop will be offset to the left.) As far as wing tip weight goes, I don't remember using any.
