Work has once again left me stranded in a Hotel. What to do............I Know! Scratch build a 1961 Larry Scarinzi inspired Queen Bee!

A trip to the LHS netted me the Balsa and 5 Hours later Voila. Thanks to young Rolla for the plans. Should be a hoot to fly! Plans say 15ft lines we shall see......

I flew mine on just under 15ft. Flew very nice. The fuse between the wings is very fragile. Too hard of a flip and it will snap out between them. I have done that too many times to count. What kind of throws do you get? Mine were as high as I could get. Made it touchy. I thought about making another and modifying it to have an external tank to get longer runs on the Pee Wee.

Sure, it will only cost you a Space Hopper! Just Kidding, unless you think that's fair then I was dead serious. lol!

To be honest it's really easy to do this one. Like reeeeeeeally easy. I would give it a whirl if I were you. Only $8 in Balsa spent on it. If you really want me to knock one out for you shoot me a PM.

I haven't run the control rod or attached the bell crank. I will let you know though.

Ron, they fly great. Larry is a good friend of mine and he signed my wings on the Queenbee. Too bad the fuel is eating it up. I was flying with 20' lines and it was doing great. I covered mine with Jap tissue. I also made struts for both wings from 1/64th ply. The plane is an exceptional flyer it will surprise you. I wish I had more fuel on board. Trying to mount the Pee Wee was a pain in the a$$. I tried to forego the needle on the side but ended up just the way the print shows. I just cap one of the filler pipes after fueling . Fuel will pout our during the flipping process ending up with no fuel for flying. Nice job though. Larry is a great guy and he certainly gets a kick out of this stuff. He came to a local contest a few weeks back. He enjoys watching my son fly the fast stuff. Larry likes fast, loud, and outrageous stuff. Ken

Thanks for the tips Ken. Are you saying you can't mount the Tank vertical with the cylinder horizontal? The plans didn't show the mounting and the associated article was in BW so it's hard to tell. Seems I could put a piece of fuel tubing over the NV to extend the reach if the top wing is in the way.

I think I saw a pic of yours somwhere or at least one like it. It had the wooden struts anyway. I bet that stiffens things up a bit.

I believe both the cylinder and the tank have to be horizontal. The NV inboard and the cylinder outboard. If either are vertical I think they contact the wing. Not entirely sure on the NV part. I need to check.

I wish I had a Pee Wee with me to check. I think I can go vertical on the tank. Let's put it this way.....My tank will be vertical when I am done. Don't need my precious fuel spilling out all the time!

Anyone used a TD .020? It would solve the needle problem........

That may be too much power. I was told that even the most anemic Pee Wee will fly this no problem. A Tee Dee .010 was tried and flights were also good.

Yeah, you may be right. It would be a fun 15 seconds though. I already considered the .010 I will see how it goes. Looking at the model I can't see how the NV would even be a prob if the needle was extended.

I made mine to go like the print with everything horizontal the cylinder outboard and the needle inboard. I wanted it vertical due to problems just like using the Black Widow on the Lil Satan. I could never get the fuel pickup correct on the Satan with the configuration the plans called for. I could've made mine vertical on the QueenBee, but I'm a big person and my hands dwarf the plane. I absolutely couldn't get my fingers in there without the engine running. Even when the engine is running my hands keep hitting the back of the prop. And it hurts. I was going to try and solder a extension on the needle. The Pee Wee is almost believe it or not too much power for this plane. I think A .020 TD would be waaaaay too much. I certainly feel the .010 would be better equipped for the purpose. Ken

I think getting my hand to the nv was the problem. I have tiny hands and could not reach it. And extension would probably work. I have not flown mine much. None of my Pee Wees run reliably.

They should be as reliable as a babe bee. When's the last time you went through them and installed a rebuild kit?

I did that with all of them. I have torn them apart again and again but just do not get a smooth run. I always have to adjust the nv during a run. I have one now that looks fairly promising. But it runs very briefly. The others just will not stay smooth. Even my dad could not figure it out. Cleaned out venturi, pick up line, fuel jet, needle valve, engine, got new reeds, gaskets, glow head, smoothed crank, etc. I am pretty much done with the .020 reedy. Given me way much more trouble than enjoyment.

Oh I never found Pee Wees to be half as reliable as Babe bees unless they were on diesel they just always seem to picky.

I do have a little combat type plane that would haul quite nicely. That may solve my stalling problem.

I fixed the wing, so now that I am home I threw a Pee Wee on it just to see the issue with the vertically mounted tank. The NV contacts the upper wing. I think I can figure a work around though. More to follow.

You could shave a bit off the leading edge so the nv can turn freely and then solder a rod to it. You could actually have the rod go through the leading edge. Just use a small rod so you do not loose too much structure.

You could also cut a small notch in the wing, and attach some tubing to the NV to reach above the wing. Pushing a screw down into the tubing will stiffen it up.

It will be something along those lines. The size of this thing really lends itself to a .010.

What to do...........
