You Tube uploads

I never let them fix anything. They can take the shake out of movies, but at the expense of cropping it. If I think it needs work I try to do it on my end before I upload it. I use Windows Live Movie Maker. You can't do much with it, but it gets me by.

When I do anyhing to the movie I use Windows Live Movie Maker too. I think if I want to get video of the planes in flight I need to use a better DVR and probably have someone else do the recording. Maybe I can talk my daughter into coming out with me some time. We'll see.

That wasn't bad camera work, it followed the plane pretty well. At least with mine I have a fixed area that the plane will stay in for the whole flight. That makes it easy for me to video.

That DVR is built into a pair of sunglasses. I like the simplicity of being able to record what I am looking at. A guy called Combatpig over on RCU mentioned attaching a DVR to a helmet. I might give that a try. It will be at least a month before I get a chance to fly again. Maybe, with some luck, I can at least find a way to mount a better DVR into a helmet. It would look funny if I showed up to a job in my hard hat and had a DVR mounted to it.

This video is from the same flight as the above video. It was shot from a DVR mounted just behind the wing and looking out at the right wing.

I've been using the hardhat/cam set-up for a while, and it's worked fairly well. It takes a bit to get the camera aligned with where you're looking, and you also have to remember to always look straight at the the plane the whole time.

My recent Lazy Bee footage had a lot of time with the plane just outside of frame because I was shifting my eyes to watch it fly-by...thus getting only wingtips and an occasional rudder videod in the pass.

Also, I do really like Windows Movie Maker because of it's simplicity. I've got several store-bought programs, but still turn to it because it lets me do titles, fades, insert stills, and frame captures, and converts the video to a You Tube-friendly format...everything I need.

As Rusty said, NEVER let You Tube 'fix' your video. I had to delete my Mud Duck video and reload it after punching the feature for steadying it. The "fix' was worse than the problem !

Thanks for the heads up on what to expect with a helmet cam Kim. If I can bug you guys a little more-can you tell me how to delete a video from You Tube. I would like to get rid of the "fixed" videos and just use the pre-fixed footage. Also, what is it like to fly with something with noticable weight on your head? I was wondering if I would have more of a tendency to move my eyes rather than my head with a helmet cam.

I don't find Utube V user friendly either....

Click on your 'Video Manager' on the top right of the screen

Under 'uploads' you'll see your vids with check boxes on their left hand side.

Check the box of the one you want to delete.

Once checked the 'Add to' + 'Actions' buttons become illuminated.

Click on 'Actions' the top action on the drop down is 'Delete'

Cick on and 'Robert is yer Muvvers Bruvver'

Not bad videos at all Bob. Have seen much, much worse. A little bit of dialing in and you will have it.

For C/L flying, Rusty has the best approach. On a tripod, back from the circle a bit. People trying to follow a C/L plane with a camera makes me barf,,can't take enough dramamine.

No doubt about it...it's bothersome! At least for me. You've got to make sure and not get distracted, especially when flying CL, and I've found it really difficult to keep my eyes straight forward while tracking the plane. This has kept me from loosening up and doing straight across the top wingovers and such because I'm afraid of losing the hardhat.

I consider the trouble just a trade-off in return for my getting some good footage of my little monsters doing their thing....

I figure to descend further into dorkyness by adapting a bicycle helmet with neck-strap.

Yes, I have no shame...or at least very little...

Does anyone know any other way to show videos here other than through You Tube?

I don't mean to be such a shameless thief but I think I have to try the bicycle helmet mounted DVR too. Maybe, to help me look a little cooler while wearing it, I will mount a propeller on top of the whole thing. That should give me an air of quiet dignity.

When you get it put together, you absolutely Must model it for us all.

I really want to get a video of my son and I in a combat match. I just don't know how easy that would be following the planes. Would this be easier from a distance? Ken

Except for my most recent video when I was trying out my new tripod(and had a castor thumbprint on the lens), I back up far enough to get the whole field in the frame. In my usual spot it catches everything from side to side and bottom to top. I press the record button, walk back to the plane and crank and fly. Trying to follow the planes is futile and the viewer loses points of reference making it difficult to interpret what's really happening. Matt's Dad tried to follow the Streak one day and I'm surprised he didn't fall down by the end.

There is some combat flyer that puts a camera up on a pole for a better viewpoint advantage that gets some really good combat matches on video.
Of course I'm sure that putting a camera on a pole is not as easy as it sounds.

There are other ways of vid placement but in my (limited)
Experience utube is the best. Also, as one of life's great hoarders
I find it difficult to get rid of any thing/anyone want some easily repaired
R/C models, magazines, broken old cars, stereos etc etc contact my wife.......
However, having recently discovered video files wherever stored take up a lot of space on your
Phone,hard drive etc and They also have the added 'bonus' of slowing
The machine down considerably.......
I recently uploaded all my phone Photos to iCloud and deleted them from the phone/ how
many photos And videos of the cat do you need.....? This had the result of restoring
My phone back to it's former glory. Reason I mention this is Mr Apple
Charges for iCloud storage Utube don't, yet it is every bit a useful for
Storage but free.
So use utube (remember the file doesn't need to be made public) for
Storage then delete all those unnecessary video files from your computer
Hard drive you'll be amazed how much more spritely the machine
Becomes.

"Dropbox" is another cloud type that gives you a free storage space for files of any type, and also allows you to reach these files from any computer. There are also apps associated with the dropbox that will copy you images automatically (to a dropbox folder) when taken with your phone. A folder on the dropbox can also be shared easily with other users, so you don't have to e-mail large files to friends.
