Cox Bumblebee Generator

Back in about 1972 I worked for someone that had a Cox Bumblebee Generator which had a Cox engine as the power plant. I remember that it was a 100 watt. I would like to buy one but haven't had any luck. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

A Cox Bumblebee Generator? Hmm, first time I heard about a Cox generator! It makes sense that it would be around 100 watts given the 1hp engine that they used on the Bronco bike engine and Beaver chainsaw. Hopefully someone else on here knows something about this. Perhaps, Mud or Mark would know for sure.

Do you recall it having a Cox model airplane engine .15 or smaller in size or did it have a larger gas engine that looks like it would work on a chainsaw? I picture something having the 1hp gas engine but still have to ask Very Happy

Did it look like this? This is a Mcculloch Portable Generator.

Cox sold the 1.4 C.I Series 140 engine to a number of OEM companies like Roper. It is possible that one of these OEM's made a generator. 30000 were made so there is a possibility of a gerneator lurking out there somwhere. In fact generator is mentioned in Dan's book as an application for this engine.

I was thinking that too. Companies bought engines from Cox to use on their equipment. After doing a search on google for a Bumble Bee generator, I came up with old auction links and articles with the phrases "Mcculloch Bumble Bee Generator" and "small generator branded BumbleBee by Mcculloch"...

I did my usual old magazine and newspaper ad search using google's archives. I didn't turn up anything that had to do with "Bumble Bee" and "Generator" in the same sentence. I did do a search for Mcculloch generators to see if I could find it or spot the Cox engine in a drawing of it but I only turned up the one above and one more that I can post later.
