Swap Meet !!! Belleville, Illinois this Saturday !!!!
So, it's 3:30 am on my day off. In an effort to come to consciousness, I'm knocking down Folgers Coffee in the manner of a man cranking the engine of an old car that just won't start. Got my pants and socks on, and know my boots are somewhere nearby. The Chevy is cleared out, fueled, and waiting in the darkness. My War Chest roll of ones and fives is secure in my back pocket.
Somewhere, up in the wilds of Southern Illinois, a darkened community hall is waiting for other crazy people to show up with treasures of tiny and gigantic bulk, while I sit in my tiny living-room, preparing for a rendezvous with same.
The trip, planned as it is, involves picking up my Uncle Wayne, over an hour and a half from here, jumping on I-57, and hoofing it North, to be at the hall when the doors open at 8:30am.
The irony (I love irony) of burning several gallons of dinosaur juice on a cross-country trip in trade for a CHANCE at finding a gummy relic from my childhood...while I sit here warm and comfy with the World at my fingertips...is not lost on me. The only balm being the sharing of the company of other equally "affected" people who understand the gift of that millisecond spark of youth when we find one of these goofy things.
So now, the clock has rocketed around toward 4:30, and it's time to find my boots, and think about heading East.
I SHALL have photos and a report here later today !!!!

Re: Swap Meet !!! Belleville, Illinois this Saturday !!!!
Mt. Vernon had a little better turn-out than last year. While pretty slack in the areas I care about, there were bunches of Big 3-D'rs, Micro Flippers, and an abundance of medium-size Mole-Killers.
There were deep boxes of engine NIP parts, but no eye-catching piles of special metal that made me stop in my tracks.
Still, worth the trip, and my Uncle Wayne had a good time, though I think he has a perpetual case of sticker-shock at the prices of some of the planes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looks a lot like last year!
The sole reed-thumper in the bunch was this bedraggled Bee, the obvious veteran of many a pair of pliers. Surrounded by a bunch of water-shredding K&B's and such, it's "$5.00 Firm" tag did not unlock the War Chest.
The Battery Guys were there:
As were the Illuminati:
Kadet Row:
This is an 8 Foot Span Stick...should have had someone stand next to it to give it some scale.
Weird and Wonderful Stuff...
Prop City
This Battery Charger, a set of ridiculous 4" wheels for the Lazy Bee, a hotdog, and a Coke were the sum acquisitions of my 268 mile drive...
Getting ready to head back home.
And just when you swear that you've had enough:

$5 wasn't bad for a babe bee. Looks like it has a metal back plate.

Just curious how much those yellow props were? It's hard to tell from the pic but it looks like a batch Yellow plastic Tornado props maybe 5 or 6 inch Diameter..Just right for 1/2A Cox application and getting a little hard to find....

The woodie props to the left of those yellow ones are also a treasured find. They looked like Top Flite pylon racing props. I use them on my K&B rear rotor .40 (hint hint Kim). Find a 7 x 10 1/2 and your in business. That'll get you 120+ mph. Ken

Well shoot, guess I should have bought it and flipped it to one of you guys! I've got several Bees in boxes waiting for my attention, and didn't want to adopt another one. If he shows up again, I'll get him and list him in the "C.E.F. Adoption Program"!

I'll watch for them on the next run in January! Thinking maybe I'll take my computer and "Report Live From the Scene"...if I can find a WiFi connection!
One of my buds owns a Piper Warrior, and I'm gonna try to con him into a cross-country run to Mattoon, Illinois since that Swap Meet is being held within easy hoofing distance from the airport.

Belleville Swap Meet...Saturday, February 16th !
OK...the drugs and, hopefully my Killer Microbes, are draining from my system, and I got my War Chest Money Roll locked and loaded! Think I'm gonna pack my computer along to see if I can snipe a WiFi connection, and defer to this Forum for Direction in case I'm hung up on a fence about buying something!
If I see a bedraggled Babe Bee going el-cheapo, or that box of wooden props that was at the Mt. Vernon Meet, I'll check in here to see if someone wants to adopt them!

Glad to see you're back up and running. I thought I was going to have to send a search party across the river to find you.

Why, from my friendly, neighborhood Credit Union of course! Kinda ticks off the money girls to have to count it out, but it sure puts a twinkle in the eyes of the sellers at the meet !!!!!!
