Hi all,

Same old topic that had been discussed thousands of times ,But it's about naphtha . just saw the fuel guide in coxengines.ca , and mentioned that using naphtha if can't find any ether.
I used quite a lot of naphtha ( zippo lighter fluid) to clean my antique cameras and lens.
I have no diesel head right now, but wanted to try one in future.
Anyone using naphtha + kerosene + castor as diesel ? Wish to know how well it run and how hard / easy to start .
I saw someone on YouTube using gasoline + kerosene + castor but seems power lost and hard to start.

Are you wanting to convert a Cox to diesel or puchase Cox diesel?

In diesel application crankshafts take quite a pounding. Consider a KILLER BEE crank in addtion to the diesel head.

I know nothing about diesel fuel, but a fairly
good tutorial can be found here. http://modelenginenews.org/faq/fuels.html

You should be able to get ether at any diesel truck shop or farm tractor dealership unless it is completely restricted in your country. The John Deere ether is the best. Just need to count the heptane content the same as kerosene in your formulation. You need to decant it from the can.

Hi Jason,

After read the article that Bob mentioned above, I noticed that there's no substitute for ether . In your country, it's more easier to get a can of engine starter ,
Which helps diesel engine to start in cold weather.
Our country located just right under the Equator line, That's why no products that I can buy to substitute ether.

I called several local chemical supplier about ether , without luck.
Liquid products are hard to transport via airfreight, and that's explains that local flying clubs members never heard of diesel model engines for the past few decades .

Hot climate here might helps too, maybe I should try 70% kerosene + 25% castor, And add 5% naphtha to fill the gap between kerosene and castor, ( kerosene and castor won't mix)

Does popping the can in the deep freeze a few hours really work for making it easy to "decant" or do you have a different trick?

I am tempted to try a diesel.

Starting fuild's primary componet IS either with additve's added. (Read any starting fluid's spray can warnings). Starting fluid is used in avariety of applications but it DOES pose a safety risk of explosive danger of which the user must be keenly aware.

Containerized either and oxygen are among the most explosive of elements on the periodic table. Critics of propane as "fool's fuel" hold with these same ideas.
