Cox Engine of The Month
Losi 1/24 Sct
Losi 1/24 Sct
Im building up a Losi 1/24 scale short course truck to use a cox .020, not sure if I want the peewee or teedee version but I do want a throttle. And I hope to do l.e.d lights for the 4 tail lights and the two head lights
I designed the chassis for the new car...
but because of the body that I have decided to use, I have to make the new chassis more narrow
Here is a quick look at the stock version of the car with the body I have chosen... It is a 1969 Corvette 427, 1/25 scale revell kit body that I found at the good will...
side
front
back
top
so far I have drilled the mounting wholes for the body posts, epoxied the front and rear windows in along with epoxying the hood down
Being a kit from good will, I expected for parts to be missing, so with that said I dont have the side windows for the car, but that is fine with me. Maybe Ill have better cooling for the engine and I should be able to reach the glow clip ignitor onto the glow head
Not sure on the gearing for my future car, but I would like the top speed to be around 10mph, way slower than my brushless version with a 11.1v lipo which hits 40mph! Lol, I want to be able to control this one so that I dont fudge up the body because it looks so darn cool.
I should be able to make some of the new chassis next friday

Re: Losi 1/24 Sct
Cool Mitch!
I will follow this tread. I have some cox powered rc cars and also a traxxas slash 2wd brushless.
I am also thinking about converting one of my Kyosho 0,49 Cox powered car to a tee dee 0,49.
A cox powered off road rc car would be cool. Regarding the glow plug, maybe you could use crocodil clams.

crocodile clamps would work great thanks for the tip
im thinking of switching out the tires for the ones that are on the losi 1/24 scale micro truggy which are a little bit taller than the ones i have now.
I dont normally have class on fridays but I asked my teacher and that is the only time I can have to make the new chassis parts, but hey, because of this class I hate weekends lol my uncle says im gonna be the weird neighbor that never leaves his garage once i get a job as a machinist working on the cnc machines and once i also have a lathe and a mill in the garage lol

Re: Losi 1/24 Sct
Hey Mitch.
I started a project like this before getting ill.
I still have all the plans and list of parts somewhere.
Mine was throttled and had a manual clutch.
I will get back to you.

Indra your back!!! good to see you again, hope you are feeling better. I have not been able to start making the chassis for the car at school because I have been very busy making a stirling engine, and im looking at maybe getting these machines http://www.wttool.com/index/page/product/product_id/14806/category_chain/12642,12920/product_name/Mini+Machine+Combo+Packages+%28WT%29 this way i can make the chassis for the sct, and a 1:32 scale live steam traction engine
cant wait to here back from you with the plans, would love to see the manual clutch and throttle

Re: Losi 1/24 Sct
Good to hear from ya.
I say go for it, I was looking into getting a lathe and/or mill before stuff went bad, great to hear that you're going for a stirling engine, if you want to progress into IC I've got plans for many engines including some really tiny and challenging ones.

Re: Losi 1/24 Sct
Yup, it's aptly named the 'nano' reported to outperform a tee dee .010 on the same 3x1.25 prop.
I think the quoted RPM was 30,000-35,000 rpm.

I have to dig them out and scan them (If they weren't damaged) but then I'd be happy to send you a copy.
I should warn you though, before you invest any time in the project that tiny diesels are difficult to operate even when they're built by people with as much experience as Valentine or Hende, it takes a fair bit of practise. Making them is a challenge too, all the machining must be very precise.
Re: Losi 1/24 Sct
thanks for the warning, if i do make it i probably will not run it as is the story with almost all my model engines.nitroairplane wrote:mitchg95 wrote:can you email or pm me a copy of the plans?

Re: Losi 1/24 Sct
Cool man, I'll get it done.
IF you do get it made and want to know if it does run you could let me try, I haven't found a small engine that I couldn't get to run eventually.
