Sig "Kadet" MK-I "Mud Dabber" ...The Dabber Rocks Again !!!
Converted this VHS video from 1994. I had rebuilt my Sig "Kadet" after it's back had been broken by an ill-placed tool box, and these were it's first flights as a tail-dragger.
"Mud Dabber" was modified with an extended wing span, removable tail feathers and a Robart Bomb Release in it's belly that allowed me to tow banners and of course, occasionally bomb my pals !

Good flying Kim!
May of 1994 I was taking my ASVAB tests upon entry into the military. Looks like you were having much more fun than I.

Re: Sig "Kadet" MK-I "Mud Dabber" ...The Dabber Rocks Again !!!
Following up on the previous subject of 'in the mood to work on stuff', my aged Sig MKI Kadet benefited from a surge of 'let's get the sucker flying!' syndrome, and is at last ready to fly again.
The radio has been relocated, with newer servos installed, but the engine is still the same ole O.S. .35FP that dragged it around back in the day. The outside still has plenty of dents, dings, and gouges to preserve it's character, belying assorted internal trusses and splints needed to overglue areas of fuel-soaked, but sentimental stretches of balsa.
It will shortly be packing a Go Pro camera into the heavens so, stay tuned !!!!

Re: Sig "Kadet" MK-I "Mud Dabber" ...The Dabber Rocks Again !!!
I know...'ENOUGH with the retreads!'...but my little Go Pro camera mysteriously started working this morning, and I about spilled my coffee trying to get it strapped back on Mud Dabber.
I've got a beautiful shirtsleeve day in December, and had yet to get some nice video/photos of the newly rebuilt Mud Dabber. It is NOT happy packing all that weight into the sky, and registered it's displeasure by rocking it's wings to any rudder input. But, I got it trimmed, and was able to fly it around with thumbs gingerly moving the sticks. Figure another flight with the Go Pro out on the wingtip, and then move it to a more balance-friendly spot on Mud Dabber.
Gonna crunch a video for You Tube when things allow...

Re: Sig "Kadet" MK-I "Mud Dabber" ...The Dabber Rocks Again !!!
lol, gotta love the dabber, Mk I! I do like the the larger wheels!
Re: Sig "Kadet" MK-I "Mud Dabber" ...The Dabber Rocks Again !!!
Thanks Mark! Yeah, the wheels I used last week were just to get the beast going...I KNEW I had some appropriate-sized wheels somewhere, and found them a couple days ago.
Ole Dabber needs them to navigate the mole-ravaged yard !!!
I finally got enough video to suit me, and took all the camera gear off for some plain ole fun-flying around the yard. A good day that was supposed to bring high winds, but didn't...so sometimes, you get a break.

Them's Tundra Tires! Hey, we're all about retreads here, what do you think I fly all the time. Kim, you make RC look more like fun than anybody.
I had to look back to see what the engine was. That 35fp is the best and most cooperative glow engine I've ever had the pleasure of using.

Re: Sig "Kadet" MK-I "Mud Dabber" ...The Dabber Rocks Again !!!
Man...that'd be GREAT...save me from hacking up some balsa blocks !!! Yes, my grimy wingtip ribs were beginning to bother even me. A guy can stretch that whole 'gives it character' dodge just so far !
Get me a note and I'll shoot some electric cash your way.
Thanks Big Time!!

Yeah Boy...and my yard IS sort of "Scale Tundra" !!!
Retreads are good, but the guys here keep posting photos that make me want to put the old girls back in the rafters and glue up some new balsa! Your own Shoestring photos caused me to drag out my partially started Shoestring kit and sort it's ribs out on my building bench(thanks a lot for THAT distraction buddy!).
If I can get some time and Building Mojo lined up, I'd like to get it done and painted in the colors of the Cosmic Wind I built back 1970.
Kevin, one of my flying buddies of years ago built a Mark I Kadet and powered it with a Fox .25 or .26 or something like that, but could never get it to idle. He was still able to teach me to fly, but we had to keep an eye on the Fox whenever we backed it toward idle.
He called me one day, saying he'd gotten an OS engine for the Kadet. When I got to see him taxi it around his yard, we were BOTH grinning! The thing ran like an electric motor! For the most part, I've stayed with the cheaper FP models...I don't do contests, and don't need top end performance as much as that great, low idle!

We've been having similar weather on this side of the river. Warm, calm, sunny days with temps in the mid 60's. I'm just waiting for the hammer to drop. Glad to see you're taking advantage of the good flying time. I've been foolin' with electrics lately, but a buddy sent me a BW to get cleaned up and running for him. Maybe the castor exposure will get the urge up and running again.

Fire 'er up Dude!! Sometimes, a small project can light up a guy. Hope that happens for you!
Yeah, the predicted winds appear to be finally arriving! The 'HAMMER' will be a threat we'll live with 'till April, so...I'm gonna try to get one project after another finished, parked, and ready for those times when Mother Nature gives us a break ! I got clobbered good and proper last March, stuck for three days, but survived on ham sandwiches with an occasional spritze of castor ! !
I'm still 'AMA'd, so the guys at the Paducah field might tolerate our presence for a bit...so, shoot me a note and maybe we can meet for another lunch.
