glow plugs

I love them, but you better stock up on head gaskets because you have to use several or they'll have too much compression. Once you get that situated they run great. I'm switching over by way of attrition and I've been very happy with the way they run. 3 or 4 gaskets, even 5, depending on the usual conditions; weather, fuel, etc. I prefer the 3 fin head clamps. No need for 5 unless you just like the looks.

A throttled RC engine, I believe.

Bernie sells a hot plug with the 5 fin clamp for the Texaco. And he sells another hot one with a 3 fin clamp for general use in throttled engines. But like I mentioned earlier, I didn't think any OEM Cox plugs were actually hot plugs, but I could be wrong. One of the history buffs can answer that.

From my understanding changing heat ranges in a glow engine adjust's the timing of the motor as does changing compression ratio and fuel . Many refer to glow engines as diesel type motors . this is not true . In a diesel due to the extreme pressure generated by compression the mixture detonates (explodes)at this point all energy in the fuel is spent. In a diesel you can time when you spend the mix but not how the mix is spent . On a gas or glow engine you need to set the timing so as not to have detonation. The mixture is lit at a given point before TDC .The mixture should after being lit burn evenly and push the piston down as the gasses expand, if the pressure and heat exceeds the threshold of the fuel while burning the mixture will detonate ,the expanding gasses will spend all further energy in a bang rather than a push and the engine will lose power as only a part of the mixture will have been used to push the piston. . The fuel in a gas or glow engine has a pressure threshold where it will detonate . Finding the right combination of plug heat compression and fuel is quite the art . You want to get as close to but not pass this threshold. Get it right and you will get the most out of the fuel .
