Lighter fluid like the kind for a Zippo may just do the trick and not attack the plastic. I've had good success using it on many of stubborn marks and scuffs. It's aggressive enough to soften adhesive but not solvent based like a lacquer thinner that would melt the plastic. Always try in a inconspicuous place. Ken

There's a commercial product called Goo Gone that can be used on a number of different plastics. WD40 can also be used to remove gummy adhesive as can kerosene.

What you may be seeing with fuel is a castor/lubricant film that's left after the nitro and methanol evaporates.
Try washing it away with warm water and dish detergent.

As per Ken, whatever you choose, try in a hidden place first.

I would use Zippo or Ronson "Ronsonol" lighter fluid like said. When I remove stickers and permanent marker marks from record album covers, paper 8-track labels and clear plastic clock lenses, I take some peanut butter and apply it to a soft cloth. The oils in the peanut butter remove the sticker residue without ruining the glossy paper or scratching the clear clock lens.

there's several different solvents you can use and most will work great, lighter fluid, WD-40, even brake fluid...i would be careful of goo gone as i've seen it attack some types of plastic.

There is a commercial product called "label off" that comes in a spray can and works well, I haven't seen it harming any plastics yet.
