Show us your flight box!
Kim pics gave me an idea: I've alway thought flight boxes were kinda cool and was alway kinda proud of mine....even though its become kinda outdated.
It started out as a 8th grade wood shop project, using 1" Rock maple (weight, what weight?) by the early eighties it was sporting a drawer, with a busted Topflite prop from a Banshee. By the nineties a detachable battery/starter panel for Q500 racing (and later C/L aerobatics) and a bottom drawer. I always used a 12v clip (thunder tiger) and 110v small appliance cord for glow plug and manual fuel pump.
Now it pretty much collects dust on work bench, holds the windex and still serves a purpose as a catch all for small parts i don't want to loose, but it's ready to go at a moments notice.

I like it! I especially like your Silver Foxx decal. I wonder if Lew has any more of those. Maybe I should call him.

Like most guys, I had a pretty good drive to get to my flying field, and so, I gradually packed more and more gear to insure I'd get the most flying possible during the day-long excursion to Cairo's little airport. The same is true for me today with my weekly trips to my Uncle's house...an hour and a half away.
What WAS my "Flight Box" eventually became my "Gear Box", with the former's responsibilities taken up by a long-deceased Goldberg "Handi-Tote".
The Gear Box recently received an extend top, giving me a little more work space, and STILL fitting in the HHR. It's got room for three transmitters, a bunch of props, and a WHOLE bunch of assorted hardware and glue.
While the "Gear Box" survived, the Handi-Tote was scrapped out, with only it's little drawer serving duty in my new "Flight Tray".
I won a Field Box Kit at some Fun Fly, and decided to outfit it for mostly Front Yard Control Line Flying, but it's been gradually drawn in with the rest of the stuff.
A gift from my Uncle Wayne years ago, this is his original Tool/Field Box that he was using when I first saw him and Bobby fly their control line planes in 1967 or so. I now use it to pack my cables and handles...the index card box is the perfect size for 1/2A lines and handles.

This old battle wagon, a relic from my S.M.A.L.L. Fly-In and such days, is getting cleaned up for more duty in case I go part-time at the airport this coming year, and start hitting more events like the Paducah Contests, Brodak's, and S.M.A.L.L. again. I've often had to park a distance from my flying spot, and this thing lets me get out to the field in one trip.
Notoriously top-heavy, it can STILL haul all your flight gear, several airplanes, food & water, a couple lawn chairs, tarps, umbrellas, and whatever else you care strap to it's sides. You just have to be careful negotiating ditches and ruts to avoid some substantial heartbreak on your way out to the field.

Not quite a box! But much better!
Take a heavy duty waxed cotton coat (fends off fuel, propellers, thorns and brambles - guaranteed waterproof!)
Make sure it has plenty of sturdy pockets.
A detachable liner for the colder weather.
It celebrates you favourite film star. Usefully portrayed on an inside pocket!
Shows that you are patriotic!

For 1/2A's I don't use a "fight box" per se but a "flight bag" which is intented to hold fishing tackle. Got the bag from Cabela's for, IIRC, $10.
A box is too easily over-laden with excess making it heavy and awkard to manage. Not so the bag.

Strange you should mention bags. I came across these in Sears in Chicago. Solid bottom, wire frame top - one 18" and the other 13".
$16 for the pair. They are tough little bags.
When I say $16 - I get confused - that was the price on the ticket. When I went to pay, some sort of tax was added and then I got some sort of discount. The actual cash handed over was £14.53??????

You'll find those very similar to the bag I have from Cabela's. Quite functional and easy to manage.
Yes it was probably a "sales tax" that you paid. Where I live in the US it's 9.4% (and rising)
