I recharged the battery of the key-chain camera that only allowed me a 2 minutes recording of the flight yesterday, and have repeated today the recording of the flight of my Toucan R/C plane, powered by my exhaust-throttled TeeDee051.

10 minutes flight on two ounces of 50/30/20 fuel blend, a bit windy but definitely chilly weather, again, in the outskirts of Budapest.

I uplodaed it here: https://youtu.be/PhVMZCJeos4

This is a 40 years old TeeDee with around 35 hours runtime on it (200+ take-offs and landings in this Toucan alone, well, not all landings were as planned, but the Toucan survived), genuine as-new compression, maybe 2-times reset balljoint, tapered cylinder bore that still gives some pinch at the top dead-center...without trying to be subversive, I do not believe any - ANY!! -  NV would do this after so many hours of flawless runs...

I wish you many similar enjoyable flights for the new year folks...

Thanks...the cylinder is the good old No 5, still the tapered bore design, and has the original compression after so many long runs...I tend to trust more in the old genuine parts than the aftermarket cylinders that do not seem to hold such a good compression even when brand new.

Nice run. That's a clean running Tee Dee. Love the clear oil slick. Thanks for posting a great video.

Thanks Rusty,

It has not always been this way, and my Tee Dees often wandered into lean runs...luckily not so much as to kill the piston/cylinder fit due to dry overheating...I have "worked out" a simple way for making the TeeDee fuel nipple air-tight - an issue often plaguing the smooth run of TeeDee-s - but am simply unable to host an image here... I know this is off-topic, but could you explain me a simple way of how to insert/host pictures here?  Sorry for the blunt request.

Try this, Balogh:
https://www.coxengineforum.com/t367-how-to-post-an-image-in-a-topic
It tells you how to upload a picture from your computer, or to insert one from another web page.

First you have to create a free account at www.servimg.com.

Tips:
* There is no maximum file size

* You can only upload one picture at a time

* The default "800 px width" option in the re-size menu fits the forum pages best for most people's desktop displays. You must choose this prior to clicking the "Host it" button

* You can copy and paste either the Thumbnail or Image code after the upload is complete

* If you have a large picture that you want for us to view at full size, select "NO" for the re-size option and paste the Thumbnail code rather than the Image code.

Thanks a lot Rusty, Admin also helped me in the meantime and I managed to post a new topic with a hosted image....Thanks again.

Roddie

Thanks, Roddie,

this is the Toucan  http://www.westwings.co.uk/toucan.htm, that I modified from an electric ARF balsa kit to accommodate my TD051.

Now it looks like this:Tee Dee 051 R/C flight video 20140110. The black spot on the right wing is the key-chain camera. (I balanced it by sticking a heavy coin on the tip of the left wing)

The bird disemboweled:

Tee Dee 051 R/C flight video Toucan10

The guts include

a  2 oz rubber balloon tank in the front (see my topic "simple balloon tank" posted yesterday); note that the engine mount screw ends are covered with small silicone tubes to prevent them from puncturing the tank in an ....er.....unscheduled landing situation
a Futaba receiver, also sending telemetry signals (speed, altitude, distance, vario, etc.) to the display of my radio
a Robbe GPS unit that generates the speed, vario and distance, altitude signals (the highest altitude the Toucan was ever measured to climb was close to 400m i.e. 1300 feet, where I almost lost sight of it even against a clear blue sky; the highest speed I have ever measured was around 113 km/h in a tail wind)
a rechargeable battery set of 4 AAA batteries

3 servos to muscle the elevator, rudder and the throttle

and a mess of cables that I am not particularly proud of.

The Toucan is a very forgiving, but well maneauverable plane, the best match for a TD049 or 051 I have ever built and flown.
