Perky photos

I would put a bladder in there. I'm pretty sure you could sneak rocket tube or a fluorescent light guard tube in there under the wing. It looks pretty cool. Ken

Spinner is 1 3/4". As Ken suggested I'm using rocket tube and a Sullivan 1oz tank (perky rules prohibit pressure systems).

Bellcrank is on the bottom if the crutch to make room, the wing will be partially relieved as well.


The two smaller holes in the mount close to the tank are for 2-56 cowl retaining screws.

Yikes, that's a bad looking little plane, I love it. Like a winged torpedo. That Norvel .10(I got that right didn't I) is a cool looking engine too. I can't wait to see it after it emerges from "JP's Paint, Trim and Style Shop."

Ron,
Perky speed is only 16 laps (1 mile) from a standing start. Hopefully I'll get between 1 1/2 - 2 minutes out of it. If you want to compete in perky events you can't have a pressurized fuel system so bladders are out.

That's a AME .15, on an 18" span. Should be fun  
I think it's going to be mostly clear dope over wood with minimal trim. I don't want to hide the two tone leading edge.

I have another called a Smokey Joe or Magic Miler that I need to build for a contest this year. I can't edit the size of the file to post from here though.

The Perky has landing gear supplied in the Blackhawk kit. It looks pretty cool too. Not sure if Jim is going to use it though.

A perky only has to match the outline if the original, you can use whatever construction method you like. I've seen a lot of liberty on where the wing sits height wise though.
The wheels that come with the kit are awesome, I will definitely be using them.

Yeah.     Someone put a Gilbert on one of these, please. How cool does that look.  Once I saw the Blackhawk picture of the Phantom with the Gilbert I just wanted one.  I have a Gilbert 7 ready to launch.  (The Phantom would need an 11 me thinks).  Bolted it to an old stick fuse & 18" slab wing plane my late brother built 40 years ago which I ran with a very tired OS Pet II.  I'm surprised how well the old Gilbert pulls.  She really wants to launch.  The plane ain't pretty, but I reckon the Gilbert will haul it around the circle just fine.

Speaking of your wanting to take on a full-fuse stunter.. and not meaning to hijack your thread.. The TopFlite "Nobler" comes to mind. It's a great choice for .35-.40 size engines.. and has a flapped wing.

There are several versions/sizes of this model that have been built. Ian has an older Nobler kit that he posted a photo of, a few weeks ago.

Roddie, do you know where the full size Nobler is from? It appears to be a Doug Moon ARF. These were available for $200 a few years ago. Many improvements over the Top Flite ARF Nobler. The clear covering which is a Phil Cartier product (SLC) gives it away. I'm just curious if they listed a builder. Ken

Ken, I found that photo while searching google images. I'll see if I can find it again. I posted that pic for Jim, because of some visible framework. When you say "full size".. do you mean it's a repro of the original 54" early 1950's version?

Edit: ok.. the info for that image states; "Classic Top Flite NOBLER in nude-look finish to obtain a total weight of 980gr. in flight order. Scratchbuilt by Gabriele Macri and powered by Fox .35"

There is no info. on what plan the model was built from.

That looks to me like a Green Box Nobler. I will defer to Ken as he has been around the scene longer.

I didn't think the ARF had a built up tail section. Maybe it does?
