Any truth in the rumour that SIG are suspending selling C/L kits and planes?

I thought I had found somewhere in the UK that stocked the SIG kits but they are all "out of stock" and no lead time quoted.

I read on Stunt Hangar forum, about a guy who just bought a couple kits from Sig. He asked the lady on the phone about them ending the sell of CL kits, she said it was news to her. Again, I only read this.!

It's always a bummer when kit production from any manufacturer ceases. That's where plans/CAD drawings and laser-cutting services can be investigated. You can select your own materials; quality plywood and specific grades of balsa for certain components. If you can scale and lay out grain-directions for the parts on your sheets.. you can label them, and have them all custom cut. This method would be superior to any kit.. where you take your chances on their material selection/quality.

Well, it does look like Sig has discontinued the Banshee and Twister. The only large .35 sized CL retained is the Skyray. Looks like they reduced the number of models they now carry.

I hope they don't discontinue selling fuel. I bought a gallon of 10/20 in Huntersville and it's going fast.
I had Wayne buy me a gallon of Powermaster 10/22 at Brodak and it's purple. Last time it was pink. I wonder if they switched to Royal Purple synthetic oil.

Coloring can be deceptive, I'd verify, especially if for plain bearing engines or engines with Mehanite or other iron piston and steel sleeve.

Nothing has changed with the Powermaster except for the color. I spoke with the sales rep a while back and verified.

The reason I raised this topic is that the Sig Banshee looks (Like Rusty's Yak) a prime candidate for electrickery with the extended nose.

There are very few outlets in the UK for SIG kits and all are marked out of stock of everything except the ARF Primary Force.

Quite a few "kit" producers are taking the ARF route which often makes modifications and customization unfeasable.

I also have seen that some of the RC balsa ARFs are not really well fuel proofed - you can't get inside to do a proper job. Almost like they have a built in lifespan.

I am only surmising!

Here across the pond, Sig only lists the following CL planes:

SIG control line models 2014-010

and the half-A Mini-Zilch:

SIG control line models 2014-011

I think your surmising is on target. I've seen a few expensive ARF's rekit themselves into kindling through pilot error or faulty equipment (which I still consider as pilot error). They may be built light, but they are not built durable like some of the plans and kits were. Smile
