cameron precision engineering tether car with cox engine
I have one of these which I have not run in 60 years. It turns over nicely. Cannot remember what I need to start it other than fuel!! I remember I had to attach a battery to the spark plug and then turn my bike over and run the tire on the bike wheel. One of my tires is pretty worn from doing that. Actually I have a new replacement tire I never mounted. Any advice on staring it again would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey Larry,
Welcome to the forum!
How long has this car sat unrun? The reason I ask is it may need more attention before you fuel it and attach a battery.

Yes except it is red. Seeing your pictures reminded me that I no longer have the gas adjustment knob! Any way to find those or make one? It has not run for 55+ years so should I clean the engine before trying to start?

I don't know where to find a needle valve but will keep an eye out for one

Re: cameron precision engineering tether car with cox engine
I recommend you search through your stuff, the needle is pretty important for someone to just take out of a otherwise functional device. I have kids, and I recall being one once too so I understand. It would also surprise me little if the needle is identical to another engine from the period.
Hopefully someone here has a similar engine and can do a thread count and measure the basic dimensions.
You could swap the entire spray bar with a modern needle valve assembly if all else fails. I bet a Fox or OS or any of many other spray bars could be installed with little fuss.

WELCOME !! to the forum Larry , I don't have or do cars at this time But , if it were me from past experience it would take some of the guess work out to go ahead and clean the engine put a couple drops of oil in the exhaust after cleaning to insure lubrication and try to find that needle as crankbndr said probably not far away . Good luck and keep us posted we love updates > Getback

Re: cameron precision engineering tether car with cox engine
I found the needle valve and body in Woody Bartelts catalog #10E, he has thousands of old parts both reman and OEM. He is picky about how the order is placed and needs an order form and catalog
number to buy a part. He has a web site also where the order form can be downloaded. He sells his catalogs on eBay, he's not cheap but he has the parts.
Link to his site Woody's Model Engines http://www.woodysengines.com
Scan of his catalog, the parts are on page 17 for Cameron 09, 15, 19 and 23
