I found this rather rare engine on ebay with few bidders so I cast my bread ($$$$) upon the waters and came up rewarded.

I don't think it's ever been ran, no combustion evident but that doesn't explain the broken prop shaft or mangled prop drive washer.  There is just enough thread left on the shaft however to fully screw on a nut over a Cox propeller and maybe someone in it's past used pliers on the washer trying to remove a stuck propeller somehow breaking the shaft......Dunno.  Sad

It is considered to be a throttle valve engine, the "carburetor" being just a ported barrel within the venturi actuated by a control arm, in this case missing.  Years ago Enya exported these to many countrys  including Australia, Germany, UK and the US.

I was lucky enough to find a replacement prop drive washer, and shot off an email to Enya looking for a replacement crankshaft.  If my bakery holds out I may be able to afford those parts.

The throttle arm is just a flat plate, so that you can easily fabricate yourself.
The crank looks like is has been broken off though, and what's left might not be straight.

There are also mufflers for these, but the total weight is then rather high. I have a few of them but haven't run any yet...

From what I have read these were introduced sometime in the early seventies. The diesels are still available at Hobby Shack in Singapore for $98 "In Singapore dollars". I don't know what that translates to in USD.

I'm not sure if I will hear back from Enya about a replacement crankshaft. I read in another forum that they were not answering emails.

Thanks for that picture. Looks like two different variations?

$98 Singapore is around $70 USD currently. Not too bad if they actually have stock. I'm surprised that they list so many older models in stock, including the .049, although it doesn't look like they've updated the website for some time.

I'm not holding out much hope Rod, although I will contact them. Bob Brooks "shtterman" says they haven't made them in years. He does have parts though.

Thanks Eric.  If it's a crazy Enya, chances are that I will be bidding.  But if you Rod or anyone else sees something that you have to have, let me know and I will back off.  I'm already overloaded on the things now.

Just finished this mess.  The parts to get it running will cost me more than the engine. ($15.00)

Yes, I should have mentioned that, the picture shows one .049 and one .061 engine. There was also a .08 and a .10 engine, but these were only intended for the national market I think.

Yeah,  I would be better off just buying a whole new one.  But the control arm is unique.  Notice the rectangular boss on the barrel.  The control arm also has to operate the linkage between it and the baffle.  They didn't make these very long.

They plated some of these early die cast 7032 .60's.  Not a great idea.

Other than carb parts it needs a case gasket which is coming.  I'm going to bench run it when it's complete.

Bob, I saw that engine on E-Bay as well, and as temping as it was to bid, I declined. Glad to see you picked up another jewel of an engine.

Bob,
Have you repaired this engine?
Bob Brooks has the prop washer (driver).
Maybe Ken Enya has a replacement crankshaft?

Hi sosam

Just over five years, and my present memory only goes back about five minutes. Couldn't find it at first, finally showed up on the far end of my Timex/Enya tree. All better now, Bobby provided the prop drive washer and i think i got the crankshaft and other parts from Enya.

I don't think I ran it, probably not as it was/is clean as a whistle. Just spun the crank, piston free and plenty of compression after five years of sitting.

Post  sosam117 Wed Dec 09, 2020 5:26 am

Just acquired this Enya 06 Reed engine from eBay.
Made the seller an offer of $90.00 and told him the reason for my price.

Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Enya_026
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Enya_025

The black goo is dried up caster oil, probably the crankshaft doesn't turn.
Will have to try to tear down the engine (with out damaging it) and free up the stuck parts and clean and oil it (properly).
New gaskets and hopefully the reed isn't damaged (if it is, it's a nice display engine. -- no replacement reeds from Enya).

Well it arrived 12 noon today (12/8/20) and looked the engine over.
Plier marks on the prop driver (washer),piston was stuck (as it would be from the photos).
Looked like the engine was run then stored back into the jeweled case without cleaning.

Started to take the engine apart (using heat when I had to).
Back plate screws came out with no problem along with the reed/venturi section.
Next problem, inside everything was/is rusty. Currently, soaking the engine in some Remoil.

Will work on it some more tommorow. (12/9/20)

Nice find. I have it's brother sitting on the nose of some plane or other, but I can't remember which. Will have to dig it out. It's been a long time since I have bought an Enya or rebuilt one.

Watchword is "Careful" which I know you are.

I have been getting these little beauties for the last eight months from Japan's auction site.
Got them for a good deal. Some on buy it now and others bidding.

Currently I a watching this one:
https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/l642987536?conversionType=mypage_watch_list

It has a nice looking Enya 049 Reed along with other Enya engines.

Their idea of "junk" is a stuck piston which is gummed up. Or dirty, or any other minor problem.
With a little work and replacement gaskets and TLC, they are nice engines.

Collecting these small Enya engines since 2002, I almost have the entire "family" from the .049 to the .10 engines.
I'll break down the "family tree" of these engines at a later time. Had help from Ken Enya.

Well, On the Enya 06 Reed engine, here is what it looked like when I made an offer for it.
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Enya_030
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Enya_028
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Enya_029

If you look at the previous posting of the condition, it was even worse when I tried to disassemble it for cleaning.

Well, the Remoil did its job, though I did have to use some heat to remove the crankshaft.
See disassembled photos:
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Enya_031
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Enya_032

Here is the rusty crankshaft:
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Rusty_11

Piston was rusty and had to disassemble the piston assembly (tough to do!)
You can see the rust on the piston its self.
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Rusty_12

Here is the four part piston assembly (disassembled):
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Enya_410
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Enya_411

The reed valve was another problem:
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Gummed10
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Gummed11

I was able to carefully remove the reed without any damage and I cleaned up the reed.
Clean it on a post-a-note paper by rubbing it on the paper. This will buff the read and remove any contaminates that may have stuck onto the reed.
side "A"

side "B"

Now after the entire engine was apart, it was time to give it a good cleaning in my ultrasonic tank.
Here are photos after the ultrasonic cleaning:
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Enya_033

Here is the clean and de-rusted piston assembly:
It is important that the piston is free to turn (similar to the Cox's piston)

Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Enya_412

On to reassembling everything.
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Piston10
Enya .06 TV - A little more Cox like Reed_h10clyinder

Reed installed in its venturi, new gasket installed between the venturi and crankcase, piston installed to the crankshaft, and cylinder head installed to the crankcase.
Everything assembled back to where it should be.

Here is the completed refurbished engine.

The one detail to not over look is the 4 part piston.
It needs to rotate freely.
I have many that I have had to work over to get the piston to turn.

It works the same way that the Cox piston works (with the ball and socket.)
