Figured I'd take a pic of my Cox twin collection. Just added the TeePee .040 this week. The back 2 engines I have run. The others I have not run yet. Probably won't run the .040 since it looks unrun.

There was one other twin but it's a non running eBay mistake.

Yes it had the box and instructions too. The bottom of the box was lined with a piece of newspaper dated from May 1968. So I assume it was made the latter half of '68 based on this.

Nice Jason, thanks for sharing, I love this stuff. Collections are educational and fun to do. I just added blue and yellow tanked SBJ's to mine.

Just curious.  What fuel are you using?  What prop?  Do you leave the batteries attached while running?  Do they both start together? What happens if one just windmills?  I would think that they would both have to start together because of the gearing.  Is there a practical application for model use, or are they just bench run only?  I would think that bulk and weight would offset any power gain.

They don't sound like the two Golden Bees on my P-38 when they sync together, perhaps that's because they are mechanically attached.

Two .049 make less power than a typical .10 and are considerably heavier, but not nearly as cool!!!! Nice collection!

It seemed like these were really popular early 70's thru the 80's, i remember seeing ads in model airplane mags a lot, also geared .60's were big at this time, the dawn of 1/4 scale.

That second engine sure becomes a liability once it cuts out. What concerned me was that the remaining runner just got slower & slower. All I can think was that the one that cut out was running with no lube and started to tighten up. I'd be curious to know what the engine speed is with the 12,000 rpm prop speed, or is the gearing 1:1?

Using a MA 7x4 prop and Sig Champion 25%. Its in the comments for the vid if you view it at the youtube site. Not sure why I left the glow plug clips on. It does run once they are removed.

The gearing is not 1:1. It does have reduction. The engines are timed so they fire at the same time so you dont get the harmonics like a normal twin plane with 2 seperate engines.

This would look good in a small cub.

Yes. In fact when I got it it had a very early pinkish hue GB on it with the 3 piece piston. I removed that engine and replaced with a later version.

Nice TeePee Jason. The seller (gatafish) sells lots of nice engines. I wonder if he's a long time hoarder cashing in on his retirement fund or does he spend a lot of time going to swap meets?

There are some links in this thread to a rather complete looking set of instructions.  It is tempting to try.  I am sure there are "local" supply houses* that carry gears that are suitable anywhere in the world.

After stating "Both cylinders run" it's a little odd that he then states "This engine is sold "as is" for display purposes only."

Having the intake in the rear the front cylinder starves, the lions share of fuel going to the rear cylinder.
The front cylinder will act like a slave. The lag will wear out parts faster.
