Unfortunately no number engraved on the case. A tiny spring clip is also missing where the spraybar connects to the throttle mechanism so I still have some homework on it.

Is the intake cutout in the crankshaft round or rectangle shaped? I bet it is rectangle shaped and someone added the throttle muffler kit to a TD .051 with a medallion carb body.

It is rectangle so seems not original. Probably the only original part is the throttle carb and muffler combo as well as the shaft which has round cutout.

I have given it a second thought and see a chance that the TD case and Medallion shaft may not get along with each other well. If the rectangular cutout on the TD case is wider than the round cutout diameter on the shaft, chances are the fuel/air mixture suction time will be longer than intended and especially when the piston goes down and would start precompression in the crankcase, the shaft cutout is still open towards the crank cutout and may reverse some of the mixture into the carb...Just theorizing...I will tear it apart again tonight and see...

Actually the crankcase is the same with both the TD and medallion. The only difference between the medallion is the crank and PC set the crankcase, drive washer and collet are shared. The Medallion carb body will work on a TD, it just looses a little bit of it's umph from the smaller venturi, helps it pull fuel though. The medallion crank will work fine in a TD case The TD crank has the Retanglar cutout in the crank btw. (Bandit)

Boring winter...too much mud in the field so I decided to give this newly acquired then instantly refurbished Medallion RC O51 a garage run.



My takeaways from the run:

1. I should have cleared the mess in my garage before I shot the vid...you guys may think I am an utterly untidy man (only a  bit so)
2. The throttle/RC carb combo is astonishingly well responding to the throttle movement. I guess it is more reliable than the RC carb of the more "noble" TD 050...just to make it clear, I love them both and all
3. The Muffler on a SPI 051 cylinder does not necessarily cause erratic run.
4. I may decide later to swap the Medallion crankshaft with that of a TD049, just to check the impact of the wider, rectangular cutout in the latter on the tach
5. BTW the acoustic tach on my phone showed sometimes double the actual tach..without pretending to be an acoustic expert I attribute this phenomenon to the echo in the garage where I was exiled to mess around with the engine behind a closed garage door..for the sake of the Saturday afternoon nap of our neighbors...In turn, I walked away semi-deaf after the run.

Hearing protection and a plywood sheet would have solved most of those problems.

I don't even mess about with engines without hearing protection. I feel better after the fun too.
