no, just the original plans. I'm sure there are free plans out there somewhere. These came with the boat i built back in the early 1980's.

Hey HD! I could use a set of plans for a watercraft like that. I have some Dumas mounts, brass shafts stuffing box and little plastic prop that look just like what's on that plan. If New222 didn't take em, let me know and I'll PM you my address and postage.

Here's a Short Stuff/DV10 kit that I built in the early 90's for electric power.

still available

I used a Graupner mono-drive that came with a Speed-600 motor (540 stock can-motor) mount, drive-shaft, stuffing-tube, coupler, flip-up rudder and prop.

I hogged-out the rear bulkheads with a rotary-tool/rasp to fit the custom battery packs I made. The motor was rated for 6-9V.. so I made two sub-C NiCd saddle-packs; one 7.2V with 3 cells on each side.. and a jumper-wire connecting them at the transom. The other was a 8.4V pack with 3cells ea. side, and one cell with jumpers at the transom.

It was HEAVY.. especially toward the stern and needed some down-trim on the tabs to stop "porpoising". A Cox engine would be real cool Marleysky.. and I have the Dumas hardware too. I always wondered whether a Sandblaster heat-sink would be enough for cooling. I have the Dumas cooling-clamp for Cox .049.. but if the water-line/tubing clogs.. it could cause more damage to the engine cylinder than not running anything around the head. Huh...

This is a nice little 18" boat. Building it from Dumas' kit was enjoyable. It was my first boat.. so I had no prior experience building a hull. The built-up kit is/was furnished with mahogany maranti plywood. It's a lot different than aircraft-birch. It's lighter.. and I found that it splits easily. Assembly was with epoxy exclusively. Being my first model, there were areas at the hull-joints that required filling. I used automotive body filler, spot-putty and sanded-primer before spraying my colors. Some people have built little V-hulls from balsawood with laminated lite-ply bracing/supports for the engine-mount and running hardware. That would be the lightest option, as opposed to building a composite hull.

Dumas made a fiberglass hull for this model. Many of their DV-class hulls were available as built-up or fiberglass. Here's a couple old photos (someone else's model..) that I saved from an eBay auction.

Here's my Dumas hardware kit #2306 recommended for running a Cox .049 engine in the model.

Plans for Dumas Short Stuff, fits Cox.049 Dumas_10

parts spread out.. with some notes I took. (a few parts not shown..  the rudder and some small m/w pins for crudely locking the prop on the shaft.)

There is a 5-40 threaded stub for mounting the flywheel/U-joint to the engine.

The Dumas prop is 1" diameter.. and designed for submerged running with their running gear.

I have been researching building a surface-drive. I found some small Aqua-Craft "Reef-Racer" props that might fit the bill.

CEF member 1/2Anut has experience with Cox-powered surface-drives. He could tell you all you need to know about powering the "Short Stuff" with a Cox engine.

Roddie, you sure are a warehouse of information and experience! Thanks to you and deanthree5 for the pictures and hardware pictures. I'll have to dig into my storage bin (treasure chest) to find the Dumas parts I have, but they sure look like what you have posted. I think I had posted the picture here, a while back of the engine ( that came in the tackle box with the Dumas stuff) that was all carbon/castor baked inside and out. I now assume it got that way from lack of cooling or improper air flow in an enclosed hull.
Is lightness of the wood used in Hull construction as much of a concern as it is with airframes? My first thought would be probably not...as long as it floats and has been water and fuel proofed? oTOH, a 8oz boat would be faster than a 16 oz boat with the same motor. We'll see.....
