I'd intended to get the Lazy Bee's new rudder installed and working for S.M.A.L.L. (thereby giving Tony another 'Pylon' to lap!), but I guess 2 1/2 weeks late is STILL better than never.  Had winds working their way up to 20 mph from the west, but figured the ole Bee would survive a single test flight, which it did.

Had to fish around behind the firewall to replace some of the engine mount blind nuts that had fallen out, along with checking the tank and lines.

I built two wings for the Bee: 40" and 50" versions, and picked the longer 50 for the Bee's first flight with it's new rudder.

So maybe we're good for another 20 years!

She's Looking Good Kim , bet it felt good to feel her flying again . I don't recall seeing that type expansion chamber on there before Smile It always impresses me all the extra cargo you strap on to your planes and seem to fly just fine . Babe Bee Eric

Some folks will go to any (long) length to keep from cleaning their plane. Very Happy

Thanks guys! Yes, it's good to have the ole Bee going again. Now, if I can just be careful not to body-slam the thing, we'll be ready to resume some of the engine testing that gets aimed at it!

The long exhaust was actually included on Andy Clancy's original Lazy Bee WAY back in the early 1990's (or at least when I first spotted it in a small ad in Model Aviation). The pipe seemed to add even more character to the already "Special" appearance of the the Bee.

I was originally told that the little O.S. would never run with that chunk of plumbing, and it certainly likes better to run without it, but the cool "baby trail bike sound" is worth the loss of some RPM, along with the weird gurgling from it when I fly it on it's floats.

I have been pleasantly surprised at just how much weight a plane will lift as long as it's kept at it's original balance point. Since getting my second GoPro camera, I've been able to often leave off the lead ballast packs, using the second camera to balance the plane AND double the video footage (this proved REALLY handy at S.M.A.L.L. when Tony's Tee Dee .020 rocket was blasting all around the big B.O.T.)

The Bee's window photos (from it's early days when I was married) are Caleb, my step son at the time and my niece Cassie. Both are now grown with their own families. Caleb is now back to civilian life after serving in the Air Force as an Avionics Technician, and Cassie is working toward her veterinarian license. Out of frame, and in the last window, is Sandy, my ex-mother-in-law---I used to say I included her to keep away evil spirits---and it must have worked since the Bee STILL survives !

Used to have a photo of my ex and her Tennessee walking horse in the front window, who were ejected for obvious reasons!
