Re: Question Cox .020 prop screw size
I asked my hardware store if they had any 5-40 screws. He had no idea what I was talking about.

Why am I not surprised?
I have this silly idea that staff in a shop (Of any kind) should actually know more about what they are selling than I do, and how often am I disappointed!

Same especially in Hpbbystores,
they are great guys but they only know about BNF foamies and OS engines.

Quite, in my day modelshop proprietors, and their staff, were all enthusiasts, modellers first, shop staff second, not any more, today it's all "What turns the biggest profit" and how little can we pay these kids who work for us? And you know what they say "Pay peanuts and you get monkeys"

So true.
I think it would be really cool to open up a vintage hobbyshop
"where its still 1965 and every things still done by hand"

I know what you mean. Back in So. Cal. I did find some at an Ace hardware store. Should have bought more.

Where would you get the stock though? I admit that my "modelling mind" is still firmly in the 60's, i just wish you could still get all the stuff we took for granted.

Yes well
I suppose off eBay and donations I think I could source some stuff even if it was more a museum than a shop.

Re: Question Cox .020 prop screw size
there was a website that had odd size screw for a good price, 2$ a box for 100 2-56X1/2, about the same for the nuts. shipping was 10.00 UPS ground. might do it one day.

That sounds like McMaster-Carr.
In spite of the severe postage fees, they're a good company to deal with and they have everything.

Ditto -- I buy a lot of their stock for work. However, I have found their shipping fees to be pretty reasonable; it may be because we are a commercial shipping/receiving point.
For you controlliners on here, McMaster sells type 302 and type 304 stainless steel cable in .012, .015 and .018 diameters in lengths of 300' or more. Although 300' sounds like a lot, if you're flying 42' lines, figure 44' for terminating, handle wrap and screw-ups; that's 88'/set. You can buy enough cable for 4 sets for $17.60 --- and that's cheap.
I also buy all my screws, nuts and washers from them for my flying needs -- they carry a complete line of imperial and metric hardware, i.e., 5-40 socket head bolts for COX prop bolts.
