I recently read up on the real "spruce goose" and found it's largely made up from Birch wood. I suppose " birch goose" isn't quite as catchy.

Yeah, one of the guys that posted a comment was there also, and knows the owner. The guy's was obviously a big fan of these engines, so maybe at some point, he'll join the forum.
Just in case he's seen it, think I'll post a comment on the video, asking him to check out this forum and the .049 Collectors Group. Figure that he's bound to know about them, but maybe an invitation will prompt him to join us.

BTW, received my 4 series Gullow's Spit' and will start building it after New Year's after the holiday decorations are taken down.

I like it because when people tell me big aircraft can only be made out of high tech metals as stuff I just then go look at the SPRUCE goose.

Few more, these are part of the original drawings for the Goose, unfortunately these seem to be all that are freely available, might be useful though

Further the wooden structure would never have held up in military useage.

You'll find that quite few people here are older and more experienced. That's why were contribute what we do. we'll try in every way possible to guide you in the right direction but remember that model aviation is NOT an inexpensive hobby.
For example an operational RC Spruce Goose would cost in the thousands of dollars.

That I know but it did fly!
There is more to aviation than military interest I was told several times by people who thought they knew everything about aircraft that nothing "big" could fly at all if it was made from wood.

I would love to see it one day.
Something to add to yours if you have not seen it already is the "Avro Lancaster" in my opinion a fantastic plane. There are not many left and the only original one flying is in Canada.Or if you get over to England there is one at the RAF museum in Hendon.
