Spray bar seal

Spray bar seal
Hello all,
Here's a straightforward question . On the cox website, I saw some spraybar seals listed in the "Back end" section. (.049) I'm looking at the exploded diagram of a Black Widow here in front of me and I don't see that part listed. I'm thinking that it looks like the tube that the needle valve seats into when you screw it down. If that is so, then I didn't think that that was a seperate part, but instead part of the back plate. If it is a seperate part, then how easy is it to remove and is the seal something that is ever likely to wear out in the normal course of an engine's lifetime?

These? These are to hold and seal the spray bar on tank-less backplates like used on the SureStart, Killer Bee and other production engines!
Not shown in the above diagram, but this is the type of engine those seals are for.
You will have to talk to Matt (ExModelEngines) or Bernie (CoxInternational) about the assembly in the tank backplates. Usually, they were not to be taken apart down to that level so he may refer you to a new backplate if you are having issues with your current backplate. As far as I know (I haven't taken one apart to that level), there is no seals in the backplate spraybar assembly in the tank backplate.

Re: Spray bar seal
Yeah,
Like Admin says those seals are for the horseshoe, postage stamp backplates. If you have a tanked engine then it's not required. Some folks remove that seal entirely and just use silicone fuel tubing as it makes it more air tight.

Re: Spray bar seal
Thanks for the replies.
All of the dozens or so Cox'es I'v owned have been either the built in tank type or Tee Dees. That would explain why I had neved seen such a seal. I was just wondering if they were something I would need to buy to keep on hand.

Re: Spray bar seal
I didn't even know about these till now... still not exactly sure where they are at on the backplate...
Re: Spray bar seal
We are running into a percentage of those being cracked on engines and backplates due to their age; hence we are including a spare with every engine and backplate that uses them.
When cracked, the needle valve does not remain seated, leading to erratic RPM changes.
Easy to remove / easy to install.

Re: Spray bar seal
Yes, as you can see the one in the picture above is cracked...
The new ones work well and they are easy too replace.

Re: Spray bar seal
I keep a few of those spare seals on hand and replace them on my Tee Dees when the KK needles loosen up. On the Bee backplates I just use the fuel tube seal.
