Dan Gurney Eagle
Dan Gurney Eagle
I learned Dan Gurney died a few days ago. I admired him as a racer. Among his many wins his win at Le Mans in 67 teamed with AJ Foyt driving a Ford GT40 prepared by Carroll Shelby stands out to me. The went there and smoked the Europeans with American iron.
This is a Gurney Eagle his team, All American Racers build and he raced. The Cox Gurney Eagle was modeled after it, and it is a remarkable copy.
It is a beautiful racecar not much bigger than a go-cart.

Re: Dan Gurney Eagle
That actually is my own becoming aware of Indy car racing that I never did follow very much moving around as we did
later in life I got to pay for and try to see a F-1 race at Nurnberg Ring.... big waste of $$$ the 3.3 seconds a car came by where our stands were---they were much too fast to even know what car or cars just past us
I much prefer our smallish local stock car tracks or venues like Richmond or Bristol
Went to a Daytona 500 and a Dover rave once...another PITA and waste of $$$
I personally was not all that enamored with the various drivers... being a tech head I was a lot more intrigued by the macheines

At least you have the version with the baby bee 04nine metal fuel tank the other version has the fuel tank molded into the top half of the chassis and if you know anything about these Cox cars it doesn't take long for the Nitro to wear out the plastic fuel tanks

Beautiful model CB and the corresponding photograph of Gurney sitting in the Eagle compliments.
The inspiration for the Eagle, the Lotus 38 driven by Jimmy Clark to a win in 1965 at Indianapolis. I watched that race, along with every one broadcast in the 1960's, to me the golden age of Indy and Formula 1 & 2.

These are really beautiful Formula 1 cars from the good old days a far cry from the race cars of today with all the electronics I just had a couple chances to buy a Cox Gurney eagle but the chances were not in my favor it seems like it's either feast or famine anyhow one of you guys mentioned about the Dover RaceTrac in Delaware I was there in 1995 for stock car race I am a auto body technician and previously had my own business before the downturn in the economy my Dupont jobber paint supplier gave out tickets and I was lucky to get a free ticket and I went with a bunch of guys to the stock car race the other cars do drive by pretty fast
