Wow, it looks unused! Box a little tattered, but for the age, not a bad deal!!

The model has never been fueled, not much to do to it but polish. I really like the box art and think it will clean up well, Ive had good results on boxes using Pledge polish or oil soap in the past.
Any box cleaning tips would be appreciated, its got bug poo on it. I tested oil soap and took it off ok.
It came from the Palmetto State, the Palmetto Bug state.

Pledge polish on the box works for me CB. It does a good job of restoring color and reducing further deterioration.
Guess you won't be applying the decals and flying it. I like the way they stowed the handle.

Hi Bob, I made some stickers for it. Funny the stickers that came with it are water slide decals, going to save those. As for flying i couldn't even if I wanted to, I have vertigo so bad I have to hold on when i close my eyes in the shower. The bug poo is proving to be tough stuff. Might spot try some acetone.
Another shelf queen for me.

Nice plane! A little windex applied to a terry cloth and light scrub can help clean box, don't get it too wet. Be careful and don't over polish the plastic, you want a like new look, not a high gloss, often just a light buffing with a clean dry terry cloth towel is all you need.
Re: Cox Thompson Trophy Winner
I have one of these new in box also, and yes, the box art is a grabber! Needs to be on a T-shirt! I sent the late Bob Odegaurd, who restored and flew the red #57 Cleveland racer that Cook Cleland flew, some photos of it after talking with him at Oshkosh, and he had no idea it was ever a "toy airplane." I forget how many versions Cox made of these, but I have the chrome version also, not as nice but a good representation.

Re: Cox Thompson Trophy Winner
Great story, I tried to learn some history of the racer. Unlike the Pennzoil Pitts and Miss America model that have pilots associated with them this model has none.
The Corsair won the Trophy in 47 and 49, they smoked the Mustangs and in 49 took 1,2,3. I believe they were all owned by Cook Cleland.
Apparently # 74 was painted blue, not red.

Welcome to Facebook! Links directly to your homepage. Was that your intent? Or were you trying to link to a picture of a P38? Really enjoy your early modeler experiences, wish I had photos of my exploits as a youngster!

Sorry, I'll pull it. My intent was to post a fantastic video of the Red Bull P-38 and a Corsair, flying with others, but it didn't go straight to the video.
Should have checked it right afterward.

I have one Rene, I was always wild about cars and built a few.
Almost killed myself in this one when the steering let go and I hit a stone wall and knocked myself out cold. Steep hills in NH. I think my father busted it up later.

I would love to see that Kim. Is there a youtube or some other link that doesn't involve Facebook?
