Jason and the Funny Car
Jason and the Funny Car
I couldn't have finished/completed it without his help. From the front axles to the fuel tank he has this thing covered.
Last of my winter projects.
Jason printed out axle brackets in several different axle diameters. I tried to make the black-walls fit but I could not come up with the right combinations of bushings to do the job. Not Jason's fault, weird hole for the axle on those, so I used the white walls as one of the printed axles fit perfectly. And..........I like the funky look of the white walls....
A couple of brass washers and 4/40 nuts which screwed on tight give a much better track than the loosy goosy original wheels did.
Still need to trim the axles back to the nut and add a drop of c/a to secure, or I could use a jam nut. Also may substitute 2/56 machine screws for the #2's presently installed.
Only thing now is to add fuel and glow and we're ready to go..........sometime.
Who needs the Argonauts or the golden fleece.
Long way from here:

Beautiful restoration Bob, a very sporty looking car! ... will you start it? or will you have it on an exhibition shelf?
Congratulations!
Jason, another time very good work and your skill to specify pieces that no longer exist, sincere congratulations to you too!

Looks great. The whitewalls set it off and give one something to catch the eye!

Looks like I got the angles right. They turned out good. I can make a set of axles for the other wheels. Just measure the hole with a caliper and I can adjust the size in 2 minutes.

No need Jason, this combination works so much better than the original sloppy wheels, besides I really do like the funky whitewalls.
Also, the blackwalls are slightly smaller than the originals causing the frame to drag on the ground, while the whitewalls are slightly larger and provide perfect clearance.
I might run it Mauricio, but I don't have the parachute or the guide string with the parachute actuating pieces. But I sure could run it free style.

The Vega came out Nice !! The larger white wheels look good stuck under the fender , a good cleaning can really make a difference , nice to have friends especially with 3D printers

Pinto Eric, Pinto!
Don't want to insult Vega (GM) owners, although the Vega was a loser in it's own right. But not to the extent of the Pinto (Ford).
I remember test driving one (Pinto) when it first came out. Wouldn't go over 30 MPH. Seriously.
Aluminum block Vega engine, a very negative Wow.

Re: Jason and the Funny Car
IN the 80s I was sought after for my engine abilities...seriously.. some dummies though I knew a thing or two cuz I worked in a motor pool and on aircraft
From 1978 to 1985 I worked on several project cars
V8 into a Vega
V8 into a Pinto
Bigger V8 into AMC
V8 into Opel GT
77 Caddy Fleetwood onto a 4x4 Bronco Chassis
I dearly wish I could have back all the weekend and midnight hours from those mostly failed events...mostly I wish I had not busted as many knuckles as I did

I would have paid good money Fred to watch (key word is watch!) you bruise knuckles putting that huge Cadillac body on a Bronco. Got a picture of the result?
The first gen Opal GT was always on my look for list as it resembles (if you squint real hard) my belated '74 Corvette. But I never found one to my liking. I still check Bring A Trailer for them though.

Don't know why I remember this but SSG Roy Patton an avionics repairman in D company 227th AVN BN wanted a 283 V8 in his "poor man's Corvette"
so we stuffed one in....of course must be auto tranny and exhaust headers were a challenge

I had one of those little gems in my 1959 Corvette, original to the car with the correctly marked CQ block. But everything else was hammered. 327 heads, headers, incorrect everything. Check out the rusted boxed frame.
I had it rebuilt to correct standards. Going back in with a much younger Mark doing the heavy looking on.
Hijacking my own thread here, but for a good cause.
