Control line T-28/Enya .29 engine removal.......Somewhat destructive

Kerosene and MMO a poor man's variation of Ed's Red bore cleaner.  I used MMO because I'm out of non-synthetic ATF and I don't always trust acetone.  

Academic anyway, the anodized head is toast as the glow plugs threads are stripped.  First time I have seen this in any Enya.  PO must have been a brute.  Disappointing though as I was all set up to run it.

No matter, I have many Enya .29's I just have to choose one.  But, if I don't go with the red head I will have to cut new exhaust and needle holes in the cowling.  



I did get the little Cox 5cc vented to run though after trying Traxx 10% to no fun.  Then it ran fine on Cox 35% but fuel leaked out of the bottom vent tube.  Got to swap the tank top to bottom but then the overflow tube won't align with the hole in the cars body.  

Overall not a great day.



Edit add: What am I thinking of.........forgot all about this little beauty that I haven't stripped the paint from yet. Might just swap heads.

The Enyas normally have a brass insert in the head rather than the plug screwing directly into alloy. Must have really cranked that sucker down. 1/4" UNEF may be hard to find, but I'd probably try for a Helicoil.

Bob, Bob Matte might be able to repair that with a helicoil. http://www.flyfreeflight.com/Site/Home.html He's reasonable for sure and he would more than likely have the proper size in stock without having to purchase several of them.

Yes, no brass insert in the sand casts. They arrived with the 5002 ovals/airfoils .29 and others.

Not cheap, but apparently better than Heli-Coil. I believe this is because it seals at the head. I know a couple people that have used these and they swear by them. I have read all good, in both RC and other applications. May be worth reading into should you decide to try it. They do make 1/4-32 for our glow plugs.

Considering that stripped glow plug hole I tossed it in the crock pot yesterday about 3 PM and forgot about it until about 10. Unpluged it and just left it in the pot.

This morning I washed it off in Simple Green, rinsed it, blew it out with compressed air and back to the kero/MMO mix until I get a chance to deal with it.

Yup, removed all the anodizing.

Wonder if I should have it (and the drive washer) anodized first then repair the GP hole.............or visa versey.

Has anyone ever used any of this stuff?

Picked up a can of red on special the other day.   Got a few red parts need re-colouring, so for the display pieces I thought it might do a good enough job.  The can says it's heat proof and fuel proof but I suspect a nitro engine may be pushing its limits.

Good point Fred. I myself, would not have thought of that. While it still may work, it is definately not worth the risk.

But if I can find some of that Dupli-color stuff that Rod showed, I may give that a try on a test piece.
