Got to admit the automatic milk, cattle, and logging cars are mighty impressive but that's as far as I got. Someday when I have 47 minutes to spare Ill watch the whole thing.

Stopped by Mario's train store today with Mark, It's his 56th birthday. O gauge trains stacked to the ceiling. Looked at Bachmann trains $86 - $290 and left with three on-sale $10 HO gauge buildings. Mario himself took my order.

Took Mark to IHOP for brunch, two old retired guys eating breakfast.

Happy my intro on model train forum

Post  fredvon4 Wed Jan 01, 2020 12:16 pm

Picked and stole apples in Yakima as a Soldier assigned to Ft Lewis (Tacoma WA) with duty on the Yakima firing range. Many day in the Tri Cities near Yakima WA

64 now and after 2 strokes can no longer play with flying model planes. I still have a Lionel round the tree train set from 60s

I am currently selling off a substantial airplane inventory of kits, engines and finishing stuff... most tools and adhesives translate to starting RR engineer hobby

several weeks lurking on this forum and the 0 gage section....

As Army brat lived around a lot....sure do have many nostalgic areas to model....

industrial....Joliet Il
agricultural...Wenatchee or Yakima WA
urban...Berkeley or Richmond CA
port side...Oakland Army Terminal Ca
rockies mountain...Tooele utah army depot
panama canal or similar
military depots or ammo storage
Quantico AmTrack passenger
stockton cattle rail yards or ft worth similar

model real world, or some mish mash of all above in a fantasy memory railworld

fortunately I have plenty of indoor AC space in my rebuilt RV over head cover, now sided, windowed, and insulated ---soon to be electrified and wifi connected...15' wide, 15' tall, 42' long over all, 32' inside the ends enclosed with wall and over sized doors.

This Man cave will house my ammo reloading and trains and hanger for aircraft I will not part with

you thoughts and opinions solicited....I have been slowly following gun runners build of the massive bench work for his swan song lay out

Got up to the rocket and launch. Both very neat. The plane in teh corner around 6:20 was nice to see, but my number one so far is.....
The giraffe cars. Had a good laugh at them and wondered how many giraffes have lost their heads and lives going under the tracks and not 'ducking' in time? Very Happy

Pretty aggressive schedule Fred. I guess that you can still pound a nail and screw a screw.

Rocky mountains and Panama canal would be fun to duplicate but Berkeley?

I would settle on a scale first. O might be best, larger scale more room for error. But HO offers the best variety at friendly prices.

Hell Bob...I may take more than 5 years to build benches and formulate a rr plan.....I am seriously pondering HO before I get too invested in O scale

I desperately would love to model steep mountain passes....In my life I have treked up over passes in 2nd or 3rd gear car,,,,,,as a Loco was chugging out long billows of black smoke and long loud whistles....magical times....romantic.....Snoqualmie Pass if you want to google earth it

we see the Big boy videos....seeing all the drive rods n wheels at full speed is absolutely mesmerising.....pure adrenaline as we know how much engineering went into coordinating all that

Ah, your still a young man Fred with time for a five year plan.

I'm 82 and my plan now as always is "do it now" there might not be a tomorrow.  Served me well for many years.  I did build this model railroad in jiffy quick time with no plan, building as I went.  Caused me a few problems, integrating turnouts and spurs into existing blocks but that's the price I paid.  Still, it's a long way from being finished and may never be but the head-work is finished.

One last siding though is yet to be done, just ordered L/H and R/H turnouts for it.  I found that I had no place to park a slower moving train while a speeding train passed so a siding will be integrated into the far side track solving that problem.

Thinking about logging locomotives, Shay, Climax, or Heisler for one section.  Geared locomotives rather than side rods and valves.  Totally interesting to watch.  A few years ago a friend of mine and I took a trip to Cass WV and rode a Shay up a logging mountain.

Investigating my S scale locomotive Eric. Looks like fun taking it apart but that's what I enjoy. 1950's era with smoke. Runs on AC or DC like your Lionel. Got some armature motion with both AC and DC, but it's really crudded up and will have to be cleaned.

Rene ur full of it LOL Bob thats an interesting looking model and i see you got the tender with it , I been looking at some steam engines, the diesels are pretty expensive from what i have seen ( the ones that work?) That's a cool site , i don't use Bing but guess i should to get different results . I guess / that loco will take more amps/volts to run ?

Your cartoon broke me up Rene.

Nice coach Eric.  Pick and choose.  Do the couplers match your Locomotive?  Tough when shipping is twice the purchase price.

Busted mine down today.
