I don't like plastic airplanes from any manufacturer, especially the Cox F-4U Corsair with which over the years I have had a negative relationship.  I'm a Walt Musciano "hollow log" kind of guy when it comes to 1/2A models.  But when you find them at flea markets with a price tag of $15 each I find them difficult to pass up.

I have two other Corsairs but I don't have a P-40 until now.  Mark found them this morning and all it took was a phone call.  P-40 has no engine, but I must have a dozen or so that will just drop in. Rest of the model looks great, came with a couple of receipts.  I would have liked to have found that P-38.

Shown with some other past flea market finds that you might recognize.  I keep them in an album marked "flea."

Nice find! Two years ago I found a Cox P40 warhawk in it's original box at a antique motorcycle swap meet.It was never run and the landing gear were still in the box uninstalled.I paid a lot more than you did! I did buy a Cox Sopwith Camel Biplane new in the box for $20.00 a few years ago.

Geez...I bought one of those P-40s new in the 60"s. Never flew it. It was finally abandoned in an old building with two of my combat planes in a move in '87. What a DOLT!  I hadn't flown in decades at that time so..... Wish I had them all back now! ... who knew?.... should have also kept my 68 Dodge Charger!.....Never find anything like that around here!

Bob. If you're planning on re-engineing the P-40 then make sure you go for a little higher spec engine. The original has a specific cylinder stamped P-40, which was ported for higher power than a standard Babe Bee. The plane was known to be heavy and in need of extra power to fly.
A small-tanked Black Widow would probably fit the bill.

I was afraid that someone would ask that question.

I didn't know what it was but Ron Cribbs did and I have forgotten what he said.  Maybe Ron will chime in and save me again.

I went looking for that old post but it has fallen off the edge, but I did come up with this:

Right now the mystery plane is in perpetual motion flying over my display case.

Forgot about that P-40 marked engine Rod, maybe the reason that it is missing.  The flea market seller is the same one that sold me the large C/L P-51 in the above link, so he knows his stuff being a collector/seller for many years.

I will probably never fly the P-40.

Nice, very nice there. It does seem that your son does indeed have good luck finding these things at swap meets. At least you taught him well to keep teh eyes open for these things.
