You could cut out a couple black circles and stick them either side of your wire tail skid to simulate a tailwheel! What is your weight compared to the Cox version? And where did CG end up?

Yours is 3oz and the original plastic was 10?

I always thought the plastic one was a brick.

Had one flew it on 8' lines and when it crashed the crank broke at the prop driver.

A fairly safe flight-attempt.. Eyebrows might involve a 4' X 8' cardboard R.O.G. launch..... over soft turf. Longer lines.. by ???? feet than Cox recommended for their model.. What was the recommended line-length?

It's a camoflaged 55 gal. drum, to make the real Pitts appear to be a model. Very Happy

Thanks for all the positive comments, guys. And yes, I do intend to fly it.

Roddie; I'm using Cox Super Power 20% fuel. I have both the 4x2.5 and 4.5x2 Cox props. I think the Cox Pitts came with the 4x2.5, so that may be the best place to start. If I remember right, I flew mine on 15' lines. Of course, now I'm using spyderwyre, not dacron. Might try 18'. I agree on the runway, but I need to come up with a way to keep it straight on takeoff. Wheels are wood, and on smooth plastic or cardboard, it may be a "hog on ice".

If you plan on doing a two person launch just angle it away from the circle upon release. That way it pulls on the lines and keeps them from going slack. At 4oz it should pop right up anyway. You could paint the wheels with rubber dip as used on tool handles.

I would use the 4.5x2 personally. If you really want it to boogie use the 3 blade .020 prop. 18’ lines may be ok, but I bet you can get away with longer. This model won’t fly anything like the Cox rtf Pitts. It’s much lighter and has proper wings.

I don't think it will bee on the ground long for a roll lol!  Kim uses a wood strip (rail) to keep the model from moving in toward the center It’s the Pitts…. - Page 3 Screen51

Plasti-dip!! Genius! Why didn't I think of that.

The plane is 3 oz., not 4. You guys really think it will get in the air quickly? The .020 just seems so tiny, I was expecting lazy acceleration. Memory tells me the Cox Pitts had little 'get-up-&-go'.

You know, I could knock together an all sheet .020 trainer in a couple hours. Might be a good idea to get some PeeWee flight time, and break in the engine as well. Could try different line lengths, too. That way, me and the Pitts would be on the same page for the maiden.

How much did the RTF version weigh? I bet it was at least 6oz. The Pee wee is no slouch, especially with the 3 blade prop. You will be surprised. Comparing yours to the Cox version is like apples and oranges.

The Pee Wee takes a little fiddling to get a good steady run and the fuel runs out very quickly. Your plan to put it on something else to ensure the engine is operating correctly is a good idea.
