For the last 2 weeks I’ve been printing surgical mask ear savers nonstop. These are used to hold the surgical mask vs the ears. It’s a NIH approved design.

I have dedicated my 7 year old 3D printer at home to print these as well as my new big printer. Where I work they are dedicating all 10 of the 3D printers free time to print these for a local hospital. They have requested 3500 of them. They take ~30 minutes each to print with a .4 mm nozzle. I tried a .8mm nozzle and got the time down to 10 minutes but they don’t look too good and I have to flame off the strings left behind. PETG is stringy.

I’ve lost count as to how many I have printed. I’m on my 3rd spool of PETG 1kg (2.2lb) filament. About 250 per spool of filament. With both printers running I can get 74 a day.

Jason, you are also on the team to supply the health needs of your place, here I have friends who are also doing the work of printing different elements to collaborate with sanitary material.

I saw on a news special a few days ago, a woman sewing a pair of "buttons" on cloth hair-bands, for the masks' elastic to loop-around instead of the ear.

Thank you Jason!  That is a wonderful thing to do.  I was pretty sure that you would be involved when I started reading stories about hobbyists and students using their printers to create mask and face shield components.  Good on you!

I've gone out to various stores and all I say is 2/3rds of the people don't use masks. My Wife does and so do I. Many thanks for your effort during these hard times.  Wish this was all over! Mark

My mother in law is crocheting ear savers.  She has made several gallon bags full. I sewed some buttons on a couple.  

My wife has made ovee 120 cloth masks.  We determined that aluminum jewelry wire tripled and twisted is correct for the nose.  I made a simple jig, literally a couple finish nails in a 2x4, to expedite bending and cutting.

We are moving soon, my wife found a new position with better schools, so I have a bathroom  to finish, 2 rooms of hardwood laminate, and half a house of siding to finish up...  non stop busy.

It is good to see so many people contributing as this is a big deal.

my wife has a substantial hobby quilting business as well as other crafts...she is sick of making masks

we are an extended family that belongs to churches.....her masks go to family members for their congregations
