I have a few 09s, one has a throttle ring. The throttle ring will not fit onto the cylinders of the other engines. Why is that?

Precision ground for a close tolerance fit to the cylinder. Sloppy fit would leak exhaust and not work very well.
Back in the day Ace R/C made throttle rings for the Cox .049 cylinders that were not precision ground. The inside dimension was enlarged for this to work vs the Cox throttle ring that only fit on the precision ground cylinders.

There were variations in the exterior diameter and contours of the Cox cylinder over time.
I have one of those Ace R/C throttle rings, bought it in the 1970's, worked fine on my Golden Bee purchased around the same time. Used it to fly my Airtronics Q-Tee as single channel rudder only using KRD sequential quick blip throttle, elevator was fixed using an adjustable linkage on elevator control horn for trim changes and short pushrod affixed to the fuselage side. Q-Tee made a good rudder only plane.
Ring fit on the Golden Bee wasn't sloppy, it wasn't a precise machine fit but it wasn't wobbly either. Then, they had 2 different rings, one was for earlier and the other for later cylinders. Throttling action was very good.

Later on Ace RC sold part# 60K40 (,049 ground #4 tapered cylinder and piston/rod ) and part # 60L60 Throttle sleeve that fits the ground cylinder perfectly.
I bought the matching set at the same from the same shop and opened the original packages to check the fit. Could not be more precise of a fit.

Welcome back! I noted you joined several years ago.
Maybe we can make a deal. I have P&C sets I bought for adding mufflers...so I have two mufflers now.
Unfortunately, only one mufffled combination exists in my set!
If you have a digital caliper,.we.can compare diameters.of the ground sections.to see if we can make a better combination for both of us. PM if you have an interest.
