Wing Rib And Tail Surface Jig

Wing Rib And Tail Surface Jig
So no 3D printer has me currently down, but that just gives me some time to play with my 3D skills. I guess it would be a safe assumption to say that I am at a Grade 1 level of 3d design..... Anyways, I just knocked out these two jigs to help and aid in building planes. One is a wing rib holder with slots for 1/16", 3/32", and 1/8" wing ribs, or tail surfaces, and the other is the same but really designed for tail surfaces with 3/16" and 1/4" slots in it. This was inspired by a holder that I have had for a while, but cannot remember where I had gotten it from. Simply slide it over your wing rib or tail surfaces to hold them perpendicular to each other or your build surface. Unfortunately again, I still do not have my printer, so am trying to keep busy playing with the design program. If anyone would like to try either one of these out and has access to a printer, I would be willing to send you the file to print out.

Very good building aid, I think I will cut one for myself from a thick plastic sheet by chucking it in a vice while running the side of the blade on the perpendicular surface of the vice. (kinda 2.5D printing )

Re: Wing Rib And Tail Surface Jig
The first one is definitely a big help. I use mine every time I am building a wing, but always wished I had another or two. And the bigger one is something I just thought of whilst drawing up the first.thought if the former was very useful, the latter would also be.

Chancey,
Shoot me your files. I may try to play with my kid's 3d printer. I'll check my email....I think I have your address still.
TIA!

Looks good. Radius the inside corners will increase strength. Also on a 3D printer the corners on prints tend to bulge due to acceleration/deceleration. Prepare to sand a bit or adjust the file with a radius on all corners.

Re: Wing Rib And Tail Surface Jig
Thank you very much for the input. By inside corners, dipole you mean those in my slots? If so, would 1/8" be enough in your opinion? The 4 outer corners are at a 1/4" radius. Thanks again for your input.
And just out of curiosity, why would this make it stronger?
Sanding, no problem. Lol. Can't let a machine have all the fun.
