Very tricky this one :-) 38 ounces. yes, wood vs balsa, plus paint, plus engines and mounting hardware, plus the wheels and stuff on the skids. Lol. If it is 38 ounces, its 38 ounces of pure fun!!! and has inspired me to build a multi engine P38 lightening. I have never done such a thing, but watching this build inspired me to try something different and go multi engine.!!! Thanks!!! You build got my out of my need to build but what would be fun malaise. lol! This Site Rocks! cheers Beer Cheers

I knew my guess was really high, but man that thing is way lighter than it should be considering the materials used.

I guess if the balsa supply ever dries up we can start building with pine, mahogany and Luan!

Congrats Mark!

Remember this is old, aged, very dry pine, and luan is not heavy.

I think you were just taking yourself out of competition because your a moderator.  You took my example!!!! Unless there is a rule against it, not necessary.  Heck,  I would encourage Matt and Bernie to participate, like they need more engines.  Smile

Yeah, I used your example, it was outrageously high so I thought it would give others a chance. But on the off chance it was a brick I might have got lucky. I was really digging that Super Tigre. More so if it had a baffled piston. I don’t want to know Laughing

Contests are fun, especially when there is a prize. I am a little bummed that we haven’t had a Tach race or a reed speed event for a few years. Makes me wonder if that’s why JPVelo went MIA. I am at the point where I would consider hosting even with my busy schedule.

Thanks for breathing a little life back into the forum!

Congratulations Mark! Clapping and Thank You Robert for giving us another fun "guess it" type contest. That little hardwood "tripe" is lighter than I would have ever imagined!

This thing is tiny! Not much to it. Fuselage is mostly hollow and I used bamboo sticks for the struts.

Super Tigre is nice Ron. Well finished and attractive. I bought it new many, many, years ago and until a few days ago seldom (never) out of the box. It's locked up tighter than a drum though and I don't force it. Up to Mark to free it if he so desires.

Haven't heard from Mark yet, he has had recent troubles. Hope that he is Ok.

Looks like the needles will be just a tad difficult to get to. Good luck getting them all running together. May also be difficult to top off the tanks before launch. Just a little tight under the top wing. It's gonna keep you busy, that's for sure.

Both are very beautiful I was far from the weight But it is that I know very little the different kinds of wood So I took a piece of hardwood that I had to weigh And try to calculate with the measurements I overestimate the weight of a lot Rolling Eyes Thumbs Up Now that I know I believe that these  two small aircraft should have a flight test with à control line just see if it is possible to take off
Flying I would like to see the result Popcorn This Site Rocks! I Love This Forum!

WooHoo!  Chalk another one up to the MK1 Calibrated Eyeball!  Thanks for doing this for us, Ron.  It was a fun contest, and I can't wait to build a plane for the SuperTigre.  I'm thinking a slightly enlarged RCM Basic Trainer. (here)  I've been flying Control Line exclusively for the last eight years, and before that I was doing RC helicopters, so my plane flying is a little rusty.  We have a decent blueprint place locally that prints out .pdf plans at a very reasonable price.  Like $6.00 for a full size set of plans.  I'll take the drawings for the RCM Basic Trainer there and have them enlarge it to the size I want.

For the Fox, I'll probably just mount it on my SIG Akromaster, and let slip the dogs of control line.

I haven't been on here posting much lately because I've been working to get my house sold so I can finally move the french toast out of Portland, Oregon.  It's pretty much sold now, just waiting on the closing on 11/10.  Then it's finding an apartment down South until our house is ready.  I'm staying with my son until we get a place down there, so this is where I'll have the contest prizes sent.  Kinda payback for all the stuff I had to pick up off the front porch for him that he ordered when he lived with us.

Thanks again, Ron!

roddie, yes Golden Bees all three tested and ran successfully a couple of weeks ago. I was thinking Black Widows but I'm going with known good engines.

Rod, I can adjust the needles by coming in from behind the engine with my thumb and fore finger around the engine mounts. But it's always been the the back of my mind that I would have to drill holes in the top wing and solder a "L" rod onto each needle and adjust from there. Fueling won't be a problem.

David, I don't think either one will "Fly" much less get off the ground. But, I just got notice that SIG has sent my order for enough balsa to make a flyable version.

Mark, I will get your engines in the mail today, and call in your subscription to Air Classics.

Congratulations Mark (batjac)! cheers

Thanks for putting together an engaging contest Bob, it's been awhile since we had a good contest. I agree, the Tach Race and/or Reed Speed should be resurrected. Maybe another T-shirt design contest too.

Hey Jacob, Yes! Been a tough several months (dare I say years..) but this next March of 2022 will mark 2 years since our society (as we knew it..) got shut-down. I am thankful for our community here.

Thanks again Robert.. for providing the fun!

Guys, sorry to take so long to respond on this. I retire in 4 days, close on the house sale in 10 days, and I still haven't cleaned out the garage or tool shed. And have to have all my stuff packed up to move in a little less than a month. I'm frazzled. I thought retirement was supposed to be relaxing and liberating...

Anyway, Bob was awesome and got the engines to me right after the contest finished. But I haven't had time to sign on here and acknowledge the receipt of them. Sorry, Bob. I haven't even opened the box yet. I'll try to open it up tonight and play with the engines for a little while.

Give it time Mark, it is..............as long as you have something to occupy your time. Retirement to a couch is not a good alternative.

We did the same, sold the house and moved to Florida.

Enjoy the engines, I hope you have as much fun with them as I did putting on the contest. At least I didn't screw that one up. Sad
