Scientific Dart for the fleamarket McCoy
Ever since I bought this McCoy 5 engine on a local fleamarket I wanted to make a model for it.
https://www.coxengineforum.com/t15476-flea-market-find
Years ago I found a picture of a Scientific kit on RCG that was based on the Convair Sea Dart. It is in fact a free running boat model for 049 engines. I never found the kit for sale on ebay or found plans. Only some more pictures of an unbuilt kit could be found.
I decided to build the model from the picture on the box taking the cylinder as a reference. I started in the beginning of September and I finally finished it. This is how the plane or boat looks like:

Re: Scientific Dart for the fleamarket McCoy
There's less than a handful of these aircraft left. One resides within 30 min from my home. I worked at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station where it was parked alongside of the main roadway. The base police were never happy with me as I would venture outside of my designated area to observe aircraft. The Sea Dart would grab your attention as soon as you came up on it as it was close to the entrance gate of the air base. It sat there for years with no care or maintenance. It was quite a mess and finally the museum on the base took it and gave it a proper resting spot with concrete and a pedestal to get it off the ground. The air base is now closed however the museum is still there.

Awesome job on the Sea Dart using minimal information!! Scaling from the engine cylinder… Nice!!!….. I read in an old aviation magazine years ago that at the beginning of the war in the Pacific they gathered information on Japanese aircraft by using the size of the pilot’s head for reference to scale the airplane they were flying before they had much information on them….. They came surprisingly close….

Another winner Lieven. It still has the unusual blue prop that you tested it with.

Superb modeling! It looks ready to scoot across the pond. How fast will it go before becoming airborne on those stubby wings?
