I have a few models which I started and need to get them completed. I built a lot over the winter and the building parts went quite fast as I did most of them all at once. The problem is the finishing which I really hate to do. I lose interest every time about half way through it. It stinks, it makes a mess, the weather is never cooperating when ready. I'm too tired when I come home and there's always something that takes precedence over me painting. I hate spraying dope as it stinks and it's a pain in the neck to clean everything. I made it a point this week, I shot the silver last Sunday, Tuesday, I shot the blue on the tail and under the canopy. Wednesday, I shot the yellow and Thursday evening I shot the white and olive drab for the anti glare strip. This is Brodak dope which will be top coated with Sig Lite-Coat.

I really don't like to rush stuff like this but I had to kick it up a notch and get this one completed. I still need to add decals and clear the model a few coats and cover the wings. It started to look so good that I'm about ready to polyspan the wings and just paint the entire model. I don't know. Power is a new Enya 25 SS.  I provided holes for a single nose wheel but more than likely it will be flown without the gear.

Hi Ken, Have you updated this build since this Post?

I'm interested in seeing how it turned out and how the Enya .25 fits and a flight report.

Bob, I took it over to my flying buddy Dan. Dan loved it and asked if he could do some panel line stuff on it. He owns a nice set of Rapidograph pens and he can ink the lines and dots, etc on the model and then I will need to clear it.. So the answer is, no it hasn't flown yet. My Flitestreak I just recently built was flown this past weekend and it was just amazing in terms of speed and flying.

Ken,
I'm looking forward to seeing the final product with panel lines. That's going to be one sweet plane!

I am surprised to see paint going on the fuselage while the wing is still open. Is this normal construction for you? How is this an advantage to completing the build, and then painting?
I ask because if it were me, I'd be afraid of wrecking the fuselage paint while covering/painting the wing.

Jim, I usually paint as much as I can prior to assembly. It's much easier to handle, I don't beat up the wing in the process. I put silkspan on the fuse and tail and sprayed a light dusting of silver on everything then assembled. After assembly, I put my fillets on and sprayed another light coat of silver.  I never had a fuel creep issue at the wing root doing so. I just sprayed the old decals with two dusted coats of clear. I discovered that dope can rejuvenate old decals . Anytime I would place old decals in the water, the decal would curl and crack. Well, it was a success and they look great.
