Twenty three degrees outside and forty degrees in the garage I'm looking for something inside to do.  Hung four calipers and rotors yesterday so I'm RX-7 caught up. To cold out there anyway, tomorrow is supposed to be brutal, but next week looks better.

Thought of this ebay buy of several years ago that has been kicking around my den.  I bought it for the Space Bug Jr. but why not rebuild it too.  Wrapped it in wet balsa sheet added a flying tail and a plastic apple sauce top for an afterburner and substituted an early Babe Bee.   Probably my favorite balsa rebuild, so why not hang it with others and give it a permanent home.

Hi Bob, Finally thawing out here, About 45 and sunny….. Gonna go for a bike ride in a little while…. Ready to get outside for a change !!!

I always liked the Scientific models…. The only one I ever had though I was still pretty young and didn’t quite understand it….. I don’t remember which one but it had a big block of balsa for the fuse for sure…. Probably was what I didn’t know what to do with…

I like the Saber and nice job on the rebuild ….I bet it was a quick little thing even with Space Bug on it….Like that Stunt Master with the homemade tank you rescued as well ….
Very classy….. Looked over the Circle Master thread a few times, Then one you missed…. That would have been an interesting one…. That plane tempts me somewhat….. Maybe one of these days…

Hi Robert. Temperture has actually dropped here from 23 to 20 degrees, even with the sun coming out. No way I'm laying on that cold cement garage floor today.

I built many hollow logs in my youth. Eager to get flying I quickly finished them. But I remember each one, mainly because I saved the plans.

The wonders of the internet, after searching my Super Sabre model an ad showed up for a R/C model within seconds. Not sure I love that.

I wouldn’t either Bob, These days I would rather see the simple with a caring touch than a multi channel kerosene burner….. Love browsing the Scientific and other old makers on OZ …. Kind of like an old Christmas catalog…

Good save on an old blast from the past hollow log classic, Bob, the now almost forgotten Super Saber, 1st supersonic fighter jet. The model was sensational when first debuted.

Back then, they hadn't discovered the "area rule" method to reduce supersonic drag, giving planes the "Coke bottle" look. I think Cannon AFB may still have their F-100 still on static display by the main exchange parking lot. It is sort of a bloated pig when compared with later jet fighters. Even the earlier F-86 Saber jet was more sleek.

Retained the Space Bug or replaced engine with a Babe Bee?

"Retained the Space Bug or replaced engine with a Babe Bee?"

Yes, It's hidden in my first text. My first Cox engine was a Space Bug Jr.

I did go outside to the remote garage. Wind chill in the OMG range. Needed to get my last NesCafe' coffee jar top for tomorrow's time consumer. Supposed to be even colder.

Also picked up some gas for next weeks RX-7 adventure. The wrench pictured is unique. Picked it up at Lowes a few years ago. Works great in tight places. Just set it on and twist the handle to tighten/loosen. No need to move it otherwise.

Even though I have flushed out the gas tank three times I'm wary of rust particles getting into the system. Going to dunk the supply line and the return line in the container and see what happens before I commit the kitchen sink to this thing. As of right now I have only commited a coffee cup. If it runs, and runs well it will get the full treatment, if it sputters and chokes maybe not. Were I ten years younger I would rebuild it. Today maybe not. But maybe.............

We think alike. I use each one of these rebuilds to research the airframe. The F-100 was a giant step forward.

Just once I would love to be in the cockpit of one of those.  Missed my calling early on.  My brothers college roommate went on to a career in the Airforce and flew them, also F-105's in Vietnam.  I would corner him and pick his brain.  Twitchy to land he would say........

Walt tried hard to duplicate that horizontal guppy nose but could not pull it off.  Neither could I on the rebuild.  Too much engine.

Edit.

Finished the P-26, such as it is.  Bubble gum and bailed hay wire.

That coffee jar cover comes so close.  A little more flair in the cone and a tad wider vertically and that's it.

Bob, for me it's the B-58 Hustler. Just bad to the bone in every way. Iconic muscle machine. That whole era just fascinates me. The F-106, F-105, F-111, XB-70, The F-101 Voodoo was spectacular. Lets not forget the prop jobs like the C-124 Globemaster and the C-133 Cargomaster. In addition , one rescue bird that I built a model of when I was 10 and still have is the Grumman Albatross. Also, recon was the Martin RB-57 Canberra. All of these planes purpose designed and built with slide rules and modelling mentalities. I find it hard to believe that we will see anything like this again. You can't even get a hamburger made correctly today.

I could really bore the forum with my admiration for and pictures of the B-58. Beautiful to look at but a bear to fly it never dropped a bomb or fired a missle in anger. Born in 1959 I was still a kid when it came out. I loved it from the minute I saw it. WOW..........I thought. The ultimate!!!

Nuff said.

Thanks Kim for the electric F-100 video, I had not seen that before. Humbling flight, I was happy to accomplish lazy circles in the sky.
