Hey everybody! New member here! I acquired a Cox Champion racer and have been taking it apart! LOL got a lot of congealed oil Etc but looks to be in pretty good shape except for one thing. The fuel line is dried out and separated from the fuel tank. I do not see how it mounted there in the first place as there is no nipple or anything for it to slip over. Perhaps this was some kind of homemade fix/ repair? I want to clean it up as good as I can externally and slowly work on rebuilding it. If it even needs to be rebuilt.. we definitely like to get it and running order.. thank you!Cameron .09 fuel line... 20230216

That looks played with! LOL The gas line just pushes into the hole, that line used to be available but I haven't looked in a long time.
Welcome, more pics are good.

The Fox "Rocket 0.099" engine had a fuel tank and the line just pushed through a hole in the casting. Kind of a disappointment compared to the more eloquent Cox designed 0.049's that it was competing with. And to make matters worse, the engine mounting bolts also kept the gas tank from leaking.....

There are many engines with integral tanks where the fuel line simply pushes into the tank, and sealing is purely from having the line a tight fit-many of the British front rotary diesels were like this-some of the later DCs, the Frog engines, JB Atom and Bomb, the AM 10 and 15,ED Baby, Pep and Cadet, the early metal tank MEs, and from Japan the OS Pet-II and Fuji 099s

The Fox 09 also had beam mounts...I wouldn't be overly keen radially mounting an engine with that much overhang.... You can find-from time to time on Ebay-examples of the Fox where the tank portion has been machined off down to where the backplate seats, presumably by people who wanted to reduce overhang even in a beam mount situation..

Cameron .09 fuel line... Empty Mounting the Fox 0.09

Post  706jim Fri Feb 17, 2023 11:40 pm

Imagine an 11 year old kid trying to radially mount that Fox 0.099 with 3-48 nuts held behind the firewall with Ambroid glue. Good luck with that!
Shortening the crankcase would have been an improvement and beam mounted.
Or just buy a Cox 0.049. Both engines probably developed the same horsepower.

Nice looking Cox Champion racer with the Cameron .09 engine, @lenstar65. I guess back then, they used black rubber hose for fuel line. Thanks for the photos, I learn something new every day.

Jim, on the .09 Fox Rocket, I did a little research on the engine articles in Sceptre Flight Engine Tests. Except for the .049 Tee Dees and .074 Queen Bee, the .049 reed valves are out may be with the exception of the Killer Bee and Venom. But those engines are all high RPM engines, which may be unsuitable for the heavier weight of the Champion car. I don't think the Cameron was a very high RPM engine, developed torque at lower RPM's, just my gut level feelings.

There's a write up on the Cameron .09, appears to be the same engine adapted for marine applications. Gives technical construction explanations, but no test runs.
