LOL Castor on Car

Post  Yabby Mon Mar 13, 2023 11:23 pm

I wanted to set the needles on some of my TDs so as that they are right when I go flying. I find the needles hard to get to and burn my fingers as they are so short and close to the exhaust port, so I like to set them at home where its easier to start and stop the engine and set the needle. Got launch table out from the boot of the car and put the table in some shade. Ran my engines, got each of them right and ran a tank through them to check they were holding their setting on the ground at least. All good. Started packing up and happened to glance the side of my Car. It is covered in Castor oil. The damp looking dust on it is where the Castor hit it lol!  Luckily its a 2004 Carolla with over 200,000 miles on it and a bit of Castor will only add to its bush/rural look. Very Happy  But it sure showed how much Castor comes out the exhaust when something is even 7 or so feet behind the launch table

It is pretty amazing how much is exhausted and blown around , i was running some engines one day in spring time and the air was still in the evening and after a few runs noticed there was a fog over about an acer in my back yard that was all castor lol!

wow! must be good to have so much land cheers I guess  you can fly in your backyard so to speak. thats gotta be the ultimate being able to fly in your frontyard or backyard Thumbs Up  I took another look and the wire mesh gate and wire mesh fence between the table and my car is just covered in castor. Making me wonder if I mixed my fuel wrong this time lol! I normally only run my engines where I fly, so I dont notice the Castor. Certainly confirmed that they dont burn it. Laughing Airplane sunny Thumbs Up

Hi All,
r.e. Castor, check out the full roll of paper towels on getback's photo... Cool Smile
Here is my castor story, and I am sticking(pun) to it...
Have a go to .25 powered UglyStick type plane named Fluffy.
Put my old Fox.36R/C on it. Put a 'splash' of BeNol in the tail end of a jug of %15...
Beautiful calm day, the club(half electric) field was busy.
Fired up on second flip, the idle was good somehow. Took it off the starting bench and did a nose up, set the NV.
Sounded OK, put it on the taxi out spot.
Heard yelling. looked back...
There was a big cloud, hovering over the pits...
It was like a 'rubber burnout', that smelled like castor !
Not many had smelled castor oil before...
I was getting the engine running, did not look behind...
Fun day. Diluted the mix to less castor content, and still get a smoke trail aganst the bright blue skies...
The old Fox .36 was like 1/2 throttle on any ABC .25. Last flight on it, retired now.
Moral of the story?
Half of the old electric flyers, loved that smell...
Stories they told me, were aweome...
(also, they thought I was running my Fox on 30% Castor, and we adjusted it down from there... Cool )
I admit, I did not measure the castor added to the fuel...
But we still had fun,
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave
