Flying With My Purple Martins Empty Flying With My Purple Martins

A little park flyer type beside the house this calm afternoon…. My Martins wanted to see what was going on!!! ….Apologies for “Delgado” barking in the background….. He wanted to be part of the show!!

The airplane is “The Footrot Flyer” …. I built it for a single channel build that was going on at the time on RCG a few years ago….Since converted to three channels…
It weighs 35.5 grams (1.25 oz)…. 20 inch wing span

Hi Robert,

Very nice video, thanks.
You should post it on 'Birdwatchers' forums.
It could go worldwide viral !
Purple Martins are rare and very cool...
A plane that light,
Is amazing too...
My ParkZone Ember flies every calm day/morning, I can get.
4 of those 1c batteries, I fly for half an hour. (6min at 1/2 throttle)
Then the sun comes up.
Last year it was calm, June 21st, I flew it before 5AM, and after 9PM.
Doubt it will be that calm again this year...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Smile Smile

1.25 oz 20" wingspan I thought - that can't be with radio and electric motor. That's about the paint weight that I use on my models. Smile Then I remembered how meticlous you are in your builds saving weight where-ever you can.

Thanks fellas,

The Ember you mention Dave I think has about the same motor and rc board I’m using… I’m sure the Ember is even lighter…. Allowing it to be a close quarters flyer on calm evenings..

“The Birds” did cross my mind Eric LOL!!! …. They never really “attack” the plane other than diving at it….. They were still buzzing me after I picked it up…. I think they look at as a possible predator…. They swoop at hawks and crows the same way…. I won’t bug them anymore with the plane until they migrate out Very Happy

Thanks Bob…, I still had the Nov ‘86 issue of Model Builder the plane was published in... I scaled it to 55% directly out of the magazine since it was not in OZ at the time…. The designer had some interesting single channel philosophy that actually works really well…. He is still active in RCG…. Nice gentleman…
