My first "control Line" model airplane was a Stanzel "Electromic Flash".

A very quick look at my Stanzel "Electromic Flash":
Two D-Cell batteries power a motor in the flashlight-like handle, spinning a tiny wire in a plastic sleeve that leads out to the plane and spins its propeller. By "blipping" the push button switch, the Flash could perform touch and go landings, and even taxi for takeoff.

That’s cool Kim, I had one in the 70’s too….Very innovative of the Stanzel brothers to come up with an electric U-Control…. Probably spurred a lot of kids on to more complex planes….. I remember those foil icicles on the Christmas tree from the video as well … Nice memories…

Back in the 1980's while living in Long Beach, CA, I bought my son one of those, they were still selling them in the toy stores. He was in first or second grade at the time. In our backyard, our cat saw him flying it, ran after the plane to snatch it from the air. The plane's control cable wrapped around the cat's abdomen, he took off like a scalded cat ripping the controller out of my son's hands, jumped our chain-link fence with controller and plane trailing into the neighbor's yard behind us. We saw the cat about 45 minutes later without the plane.
That was the end of our Stanzel Electromic Flash.
