Kevin, why the reasoning for just the piston? Do you already have a cylinder? I see a piston on EBAY for $20 + shipping. It has two rings around the piston skirt which tells me it's not for a TD as mentioned. I believe this is for the Killer Bee. It may work, I'm not certain.

Hi Ken, the piston rod disconnected in flight, And i am hoping the cylinder is ok but haven't checked.

I have a piston with 2 grooves at the skirt bottom, and it does not pass the exhaust ports even in my most used 051, so it's diameter must be a tad larger than the 051 piston. I do not understand why COX wanted to differentiate the 051 KB engine from the rest of 051 COX engines like the TeeDee engines, by producing a non- interchangeable  piston? Does not make too much sense to me in a general production concept, that was otherwise based on interchangeable parts?

I am on my cell phone, because that's where i have all my photos. It worked before, they do upload, i see them in the preview, I hit send, but they dont appear. I will figure it out though.

The red carb body typically says it's a Tee Dee .051, you can tell for sure if your original piston has a groove in the skirt, and the cylinder has a #5 stamped on it.

As mentioned, a Killer Bee .051 piston (two grooves on the skirt) won't fit in the Tee Dee .051 cylinder, and from my understanding a .051 Medallion piston won't fit either (those come up for sale every so often, but they were originally made for the special NFFS .051).

If I see well and my eyes don't play tricks on me, I have the impression of seeing numbers on the engine casing which could indicate an nffs .051. Those Nffs only a limited quantity and they have a serial number!!! Check if you can decipher the serial number if you have numbers on the right side ???

National Free Flight Society, I believe. @sosam117 is a regular poster here, he is especially fond of Enya engines. He flies free flight competition and is intimate with free flight. Maybe he can chime in what he knows about the limited Medallion .051's that were issued / sold by the NFFS.

Good looking engine and plane, by the way, very fine photo composition cropping and balance.  Thumbs Up

I sometimes Email photos from my cellphone to my Email account, then download and process on my PC desktop, or connect the USB/charge cable to the PC, so I download directly. (Cell looks like another thumb drive to the PC.)

The Medallion was considered the "poor man's TD". Cylinder had only one intake bypass port. I don't know if Cox's .051 Medallion had only one bypass port or two. Yes, it has a molded plastic venturi that is integral with the carb body.

About 8 years ago, Ron @Cribbs74 came temporarily to Clovis NM on an assignment for his employer, brought his C/L Baby Clown with 26 inch wingspan, 200 square inches wing area, powered by a hopped up Medallion .049 on a fuel pressure bladder setup. Not sure, but think he may have had a TD piston cylinder set in ot. It flew very well, just as good as the larger .35 sized stunt planes. It did its magic in the air.

I am green on these, as the only TD I had for a long while was a .020 on a House of Balsa Nomad single channel R/C glider.

Over the past couple years, I acquired a like new Medallion .09 R/C with exhaust throttle muffler, a used Medallion .049 and a .051 Tee Dee on a glider power pod. That Tee Dee was missing the venturi, but fortunately had the current non-obtanium needle valve assembly with needle.

Bought parts, just need to do a clean up and repair, should be a good runner.

I guess push comes to shove, you could simply replace the .051 cylinder with a Tee Dee .049 cylinder and piston set. Bernie at Cox International has them in stock. Although it would no longer be a .051 except in looks, it would be a good runner. The difference between a .051 and .049 in power is negligible.

Reason why Cox produced a .051 in addition to the .049, is the .051 is considered "A" size and a plane with it could qualify under free flight rules in that class. One simply swampped out the .049 for half-A F/F contest for the .051. Now it was an "A" size F/F without having to make hardly any trimming adjustments.

Because the engine was a gift from a member of this forum, I would like to keep it a true td O51, even though a Td 049 piston & and cylinder liner looks and offers similar performance. I do have some good leads though. Paul Gibeault offered up an entire TD 051 piston, cylinder and head off his engine. Very nice offer but i would prefer he not take one of his own engines apart for me.
