ebay you never know. .020's are common. All PeeWee's should scream. If they don't something is wrong. New on card will get you more a good comon silver or red maybe $20.00-$25.00. A super nice red tank maybe a little more. They were made for over 50 years. Just like Babe Bee's. lol!

Matt,

That was a little high for a dirty pee wee however, it runs..........and I think that is what drove the price up.

Tearing down and building up an engine may be easy for you and I and most if not all members of this forum but, some folks look at it as a daunting task. If someone can buy a running engine and doesn't have to mess with it then it may be worth more money to them.

Looking at the description though, while it does run it sounds like it needs some TLC. Just my thoughts Babe Bee

Spot on observation Ron.
At least the seller wasn't heavy handed with the shippping fee.
When I see one of these sell, I like to think someone will tear it
down and make it a usable runner.
Worst case scenario, it fallls into the hands of someone with a fleeting interest.

I don't care much for working on the Pee Wee. My monster sized hands just aren't set up to work with these smaller engines. I always seem to drop reeds and c clips and getting frozen glow heads and removing cylinders is a drag. When I get them in lots with other engines I just sell them off with minimal works and testing.

Were there any Pee Wee .020 r/c engines - either a throttled carby or an exhaust throttle? If so, anyone want to sell me a good working one?

Cheers

They do go for quite a lot of money now but here is one on eBay 110845881574
Or from here if you want it quick but for a bit more €€€ http://www.coxengines.eu/engines.html
The owner of that store is great and very reliable.

Indra:

You apparently aren't aware that I have a whole drawerful of used Cox engines that I have resurected from the dead. I also realize the point at which an engine is beyond redemption having parts value only.

I further realize there are a whole lot of people on the forum that couldn't othered "tinkering" and want their engines to run NOW and without spending any money or time learning.

To each his own, I say. Isn't it WONDERFUL that we have differing perspectives? Smile

Post  1/2A Nut Sun Oct 20, 2013 12:56 pm

Spotted this thread about the older silver tank types thought I should comment. Babe Bee .049

The other day I bought 5 pee wee 020's
3 where silver tanked two had thimble drome stamped into the tank around the circumference. Late 1950's / 60's
Next gen on hand is silver no stamp Mid late 1960's
- note the above 3 engines had two fuel fill ports
next gen was red two fill ports just like the first one I bought back in 1974
next gen cleaner new and compared to another new red tank one I had on hand only 1 fill port assume 80's style.

On a side note for use:
I now own 6 of these going to make airboats for me and my 23yr old son while the gettin's good maybe CL as well.
I also have two TD 020 RC types looking forward to doing a vintage race plane with 2nd engine as backup. Airplane

My question is why did they change to one fill port? Doe anyone know?

I am not an expert by any stretch. But early .020's were red tanked with no thimble drome stamped into them. The later ones late 60's/70's were silver tanked and sold as replacement engines and the last ones were once again red tanked.

Of course the cylinders went through the same variations as the .049's thin, stepped and thick. Also ground for a throttle ring on some versions.

I have never seen one with only one fill port, but if it does exist then it would be a late model version.

We have experts here that can give years/dates and may be able to answer your question better.

According to my notes, Cox switched to the one fuel nipple backplate for the Pee Wee in 1978. However I'm not completely sure on why they changed it.

"I read somewhere", it was
to keep users from getting squirted
with fuel. Specificly in the eyes.
Most likely the result of a lawsuit. Boo Mad

I would suspect that the change was due to the cost of replacement production molds. A single nipple might be less expensive to make the mold for. Material savings would be a bonus too.

Maybe.

A professor I had repeatedly stated "If you make a million parts, and save a dollar on every part, you have made a million dollars!" It scales to pennies ($10,000/million parts) and fractions of cents too.

Thank you for your inputs on this.
The secondary fill / breather port is an eye squirter for sure which has me leaning towards simple prevention and safety. If used with a muffler one could pressurize the tank after fill up by sealing the small hole in front of the single fuel port or by capping off the older style secondary fill port after fill up. I may fab up a muffler for consistency and rpm at the expense of run time. Here is a pic for refrence. PeeWee .020 Silver Tank 2013-111
