Nothing to do with modelling, but interesting
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chicago-Worlds-Fair-souvenir-Box-with-original-4-color-decal-in-lid-/270947250969?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f15b6f319
Saw this on EBay, and it brought to mind the discussions we have had about stuff not being made in the country of origin, note the dates ...
This has a description which reads (Note the last bit!).......
"Nice little souvenir box of Chicago Fair of 1933-34. Much of the original 'silver' colored finish is gone but all the buildings in the hall of science, administration building and others easy to see. Box measures 4"x 3" x 1 3/4" and is metal with a thin wood lining inside. The original 4 color label is still in place on the inside lid. Hinge is broken, but lid fits snugly on the box. Stamped on bottom. "Made in Japan", "

A nice collectable box, highly detailed. Amazing that it survived and didn't get tossed angrily into the smelting pot years later.

OK, I'll bite.
I know what a smelt is, and I know what a melting pot is. I just don't know what a smelting pot is!!

Yep, melting down metal, skimming the slag off of the top, and pouring bullets or barrel blanks.
Don't toss any fish(smelt) in there, it could get stinky for a few seconds.

RE:Nothing to do with modelling
You know, there's a 50/50 chance that the metal in that box could have well ended up as a piece of sheet metal on an A6M Zero now at the bottom of the Phillipine Sea......
