Drilling the Venturi on Stunt Tanks

I hope someone can answer my question.

I have read that the venturi diameter on a Venom engine is larger than a Baby Bee/Golden Bee.I have a GB stunt tank that I want to convert to use on a Venom clone I am building.
My question is do I drill the Back Plate and Tank out to a larger size or just the Back Plate?
Also,is the correct diameter to drill .082?? confused

Hey,

.082 is correct (to my knowledge) for the drill size. When I built up my 'Bad Boy' engine, using one of Bernie's Taxaco tanks, mounted to a standard Babe Bee backplate, I drilled the backplate and tube as a unit, and then flushed everything thoroughly.

Strangely enough, I have yet to stick a tach on it, but it does run and runs fast.

Yes, .082" is the right size. Since I don't have a bit that size, I finger-twist a 5/64 bit (.078") and make it fit loosely. I only have BW tanks and they're already the right size. I don't know about the others.

Of equal importance is the width of the opening behind the reed. I don't know if they vary on the non-BW stunt tanks, but they are smaller on the Babe Bee tanks. I guess you would need a conical shaped ream to change that since the Bee tank venturis are tapered all the way back to the inlet.
