i have a super tigre s2000 25cc glow engine that i purchased used for $60 a few months ago, and i took the cylinder head off last night to look inside, and it appears some one drilled a small whole (1/64-1/32'') in the head of the piston : @#!*% : i think i might turn a new piston on a lathe in my cnc class if i can stay after class ends.
does anyone have suggestions on how to go about this repair? i still need to find out if the piston is aluminum or steel, should i make a new sleeve to fit inside the cylinder also?
and how would i remove a prop drive plate that is held on by a collet?

how should i go about making a new piston ring, as this is a ringed engine

i search "why does my piston have a whole in the top" and found a snow mobile forum where some one posted that they have a whole in the top of the piston that just "appeared" and they have not messed with the engine in any way, well, from what i read is that they ran the engine to lean and it caused a whole to be burned in the top of the piston
Do you think this is what could have happened to my piston, the previous owner ran it to lean?

how ever the pictures he shows of the whole are different than what my whole in the piston looks like, again mine looks like it was drilled into?

i have pics ready of the whole in the piston, i just have to figure out why i cant get into my servimg account

I used to do something similar with my Suzuki X7 production
Racer every 2 races or so back when Noah was building his boat
Mitch. Very expensive forged pistons were the answer.

Mitch, if you have a hole in your piston something ain't right and should be addressed along with replacement of the piston. Holing usually occurs when ignition timing is off as well as lean burning. Your cheapest and safest route would be to find a stock piston for it and figure out what holed the piston in the first place. A good cleaning is adviseable to find out if any metal went through the engine.

i hope metal did not go through, i looked for parts for this engine and i could not find any, the search will continue

Well there's your problem right there - somebody stuck an ink pen in your piston. Very Happy But seriously man, you gotta do something about the size of your pics. On my screen, your avatar is bigger than your pictures. And oh yeah, that hole is from a hot spot formed during preignition, I think.

That makes good sense. Most of the bigger Super Tiger engines are made to run on 5% and lower nitro yet most people treat them like a .40 size sport engine. Too much nitro could easily cause early detonation/pre-ignition and problems with the connecting rod.

lol, my thats the best i can do with my imagur account, the next size larger would have only showed my hand, i was pointing out where the whole is with the pen lol

Taking a stab here, since I can't see anything in your picture, maybe just a hole for a piston ring retaining pin? Common practice on larger two stroke engines to keep rings from rotating so ring end doesn't snag in the exhaust port. Usually pin is pressed in radially (from the side...), but I have seen pins pressed in from the crown.

Well, the picture doesn't really show anything. But if the hole is at the outer rim right next to the piston-ring then it is bound to be a hole for the ring alignment pin. It cannot be related to pre-ignition, that would give you a distorted piston around the center. And certainly not something that looks drilled.

If the engine runs, then just leave it as it is, don't fix something that isn't broken.
