http://www.outerzone.co.uk/planfiles/2270/MatchStick.pdf
what colors should i go for, should i use monokote or jap tissue
what kind of electronics should i use, im thinking 8g servo's micro reciever and cox battery
and, is there anyone that has this model, how does it fly? looks like a very responsive model
thanks, Mitch

Re: Match stick
what about this kit? the hobby king mini stick it has a 22.83'' wingspan, 17.32'' length, and has a auw of 3.88oz set up for electric and only costs $17 for a complete laser cut kit which would save me time because i would not have to make any pieces. This would be great as i dont have much of any free time now that school has started up again, all morning doing online school and machining class from noon till 4pm
i just checked shipping, they want $40+ shipped to my door. I could build 2 of them for the cost of that, well looks like a might have some late nights in the shop comming up

Re: Match stick
Mitch,
Did you select the USA warehouse at hobby king? The ARF from the USA warehouse should ship for ~$38.

Re: Match stick
That matchstick looks very Stick (mini ugly das)ish to me Mitch
Which can only be a good thing I'd say.
If I built one it would have proper hinges not film.
Proper push rods IMHO snakes should be consigned to the
Historical dustbin where they belong.
Finally 2 aileron servo's in the 21st century purleeez.
Reckon it'll be a lot of fun.

Re: Match stick
What size plane are you looking for and what engine will you use. I have a DNU from selecthobbies.com that is 14 ounces and spans about 32". I use a hot reedie with ailerons and elevator and the thing is a little rocket. The DNU is inexpensive but still a very nice kit with CAD drawn plans and laser cut parts. It does not have building instructions (at least not that I am aware of) but it doesn't need them. It is well thought out and flies very beautifully. With a little care it could be finished up around 12 ounces.

I also have some DNU video on my Youtube link. It's not the greatest video but I think it highlights the flight characteristics of the plane with a hot reedie pretty well.

Re: Match stick
Geez, I'm old...I remember when the original Ugly Stick was published. There have been many versions, large and small, RC and CL. I wonder how many versions there are? it's such a basic design it would be hard to mess up. Never heard of one that did not fly well...and yes, I agree that the plan would also make a good CL plane.
Good luck with it,
George
Additional thought: If you go rudder only (RC or assisted FF) don't forget dihedral.

Re: Match stick
Top Man Mitch.
I looked at the Hobby King site earlier.
If you type "mini stick" in the search box
It brings up several versions lasered/artf
And artf completed leccy powered.
When I looked closer the US warehouse had it in stock and
Said It would ship it to you for 10 bucks

yep, I had a Ugly Stick back in the early 80's, it was the plane to have, however i think the peak of popularity was probably mid seventies. I know Midwest sold alot of them and I remember seeing an artical from a old mag i have from the mid sixties with the original design....wow, a quick google:
